7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it

to the full product?

From my preliminary task, I have learnt how to use more tools on Photoshop and InDesign. It was my first time using Photoshop and InDesign during preliminary task but in this module I have found it a lot easier to use the software.

My full product looks a lot better than the front cover of my preliminary task because I have learnt how to alter images to make them brighter and how to make the text stand out by having colour boxes behind them.

I have also learnt what camera angles look better on the front cover. My preliminary task used a close up as my front cover. But I think the mid shot used on my front cover looks a lot better and more like a real music magazine.

Preliminary Task Foundation PortfolioMy contents page from my preliminary task is very basic and doesn’t look very professional but my contents page in foundation portfolio looks a lot more professional. My foundation portfolio contents page also looks a lot more structured because in this module I followed my draft properly and only made slight changes along the way.

I have also used a lot more colours in my foundation portfolio which makes the contents page look a lot more interesting and exciting.

Like my front cover, I have also altered the images on my contents page which makes them stand out more on the page whereas the images on my preliminary task look dull and don’t stand out on the page.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full

product? In addition, practising InDesign in my preliminary task allowed me to produce my double page spread.

I used the drop shadow a lot in my preliminary task and it also came in use in this task. I also learnt how to alter images so they stand out on the page and look a lot more effective. Like my contents page I also used block colours behind my text to make the magazine look colourful and appeal to the target audience of teenagers 15-20. I have used the same colour scheme throughout the magazine to make it look professional and interesting.

In my preliminary task, I learnt how to place text in the text box so it fits properly and in this task I built upon these skills to learn how to make text wrap around the box and be placed centre in the text box.

Doing my preliminary task also made me realise how magazines should be presented and I learnt about the rule of thirds and certain pieces in a double page spread that have to be included such as the captions and stand first.
