What have I learnt from audience feedback?

Section A: What praise & criticism was highlighted in our focus group?

One of the main praise’s in our focus group was that the music behind what was going on-screen really added to the fear of the character (Leo) as he loses his sanity, and mind and let’s in the demon that’s possessing him. The fact that one man could lose so much and yet continue to fall into a literal hell, accompanied with a menacing soundtrack and the three main genres we had included really worked well with our audience/feedback group, despite concerns that it was a little too downbeat amongst ourselves. Countering this was the much disliked lack of location shared by the focus group, something we refused to change due to the main narrative we thought worked well. Leo – sheltered and trapped in the one location throughout the trailer, although it was heavily disliked by the focus group (15 votes for a more diverse use of location).

Section B: What last minute changes did we make to the trailer and how did they help? Our main last minute change would have to be the inclusion of useful inter-titles. Before the final cut, our trailer did have intertitles but they weren’t really of any use to propelling the narrative forward and were almost contradictive to that of what was going on-screen. Second to this was the music, as said in the last slide that the music was a real want throughout our focus group, and added primarily to the action-genre area of our trailer, despite it being a hybrid of all three. We also included far more deaths in our trailer, realising that in character Leo’s downward spiral that he would inevitably have to hurt people around him, so we went back on location and filmed more cutaways of him hurting both himself and others and including deaths of others, all seemingly caused by him.

Section C: Personal Review

After reviewing what the feedback group gave us, which equalled out at an average score of 7/10, I am very happy with the final score given. Creating a horror that included all the main three genres (action, gore and psychological) wasn’t at all an easy task, but we decided that creating one with one main focus and implementing the other two would be better than creating a trailer throwing in all three as we went along. Without the feedback group, I think our final product would be far worse than what we’ve finished up with.
