Evaluation Of The Occlusion Description: Brief Overview Of Occlusion- Occlusal evaluation is not limited to the periodontal examination. Occlusion is of interest to all dentists and should be evaluated, to the needed extent, as part of every dental evaluation. As a minimum, DO: Angle Orthodontic Classification – Static Relationships, Evaluation of Overbite, Overjet, Open Bite and Crossbite, Evaluation of Excursive Movements – Dynamic Relationships, Evaluation Of Tooth Mobility. Angle Orthodontic Classification- Based on static relation- ship and “fit” of teeth when teeth are closed. Centric Occlusion – Where the teeth us- ually fit if the mouth is simply closed. Centric- Relation – Where the teeth meet if the jaw is retruded and the mouth closed. For most, if the jaw is placed in centric relation and closed, the initial occlusal contact is between only a few of the posterior teeth. If these teeth are then pressed tightly, they slide forward to cent-ric occlusion (above). Excursions: Lateral Excursions (Working And Non-Working ) - Dynamic Working contacts – those on the side toward which the mandible laterally moves.
