EVALUATION OF PRELIMINARY FILM

How well do you think you accomplished the task?

• I think we accomplished the task to an okay standard, however I feel it could have been better if we were more experienced in filming and editing. Neither of us in the group had used editing software before and weren't very confident in using iMovie. We had some issues with the sound when editing as it meant we could only access the sounds that the software itself provided so we had to try and recreate our plans to adapt to the unexpected changes.

What was successful?• Group skills:

As a group i feel that we worked we'll with knowing that neither of us have used this technology before or studied media. However we tackled those challenges by just doing it and figuring out the problems as and when they affected us. I feel that we worked well by using this method as we learnt by doing things practically and discovered new skills that we didn't know we had.

What was successful?• Planning:

Our planning went really well as we drew up the storyboard and planned every shot to the full detail, so we included on the story board by each shot how we will shoot it, what techniques we will use, how long we want the shot to be, and where we are going to shoot it. When we started the filming we felt well prepared as we knew we had fully planed out the shot and although we had to make a few changes along the way if the shot didn't work, we had planned it so that it didn't mess up the rest of the filming.

What was successful?

• Filming skills:Our filming skills could have been better but I feel that as we had never used these cameras or tripods before that the filming was successful. We got to grips with the filming quite easily, we just need patience and a well thought out plan. Hopefully as the course progresses and we film more our skills will improve and the filming wont be as shaky.

What was successful?• Editing skills:

I feel that in the beginning we struggled with the editing but once we figured out how the editing software worked it worked well. We had used Adobe premier pro before but we had never used iMovie to edit footage before. We faced a few challenges along the way as we couldn't access things we needed so we had to make do with what software provided us with.

What was successful?• Sound:

With the sound we had planned out what effects we wanted over the top of each scene however in iMovie it wouldn't allow us to access youtube or iTunes so we had to make do with the sound effects that they provided. I feel that we did as good of a job that we could with the film in order to create the same vibe we had hoped for in the original planning.

What was challenging and why?

• I think that the most challenging elements to the preliminary film was the fact of planning with another person and not being able to just put your own ideas down we had to adapt both the ideas so that everyone was happy with the end product. I also found that the filming was challenging as we had to use our peers as actors and trying to get them to understand the same vision that we had was tricky as they didn't fully understand the meaning of our film, that could have been a fault of our behalf as maybe we didn't but enough detail into the storyboard so that they understood as well but I think if we had more patience and more time then we could have gotten there in the end.

What skills do you need to develop before the main

production task?• I feel that for next time we need to develop our editing skills so that we can create a cleaning cut flowing piece of film that we are proud to show. We also definitely need to perfect our filming skills so that we can create a film that is up to the standard that we hoped and we need to use a lot more filming techniques and editing techniques so that it doesn't seem repetitive for the viewers and that our work is something that is a high standard.
