The Hunger Games

The reaping is an annual event that takes place in every district before each Hunger Games, where the tributes of the upcoming Games are chosen.

The ominous and fearful atmosphere in this scene are created primarily by the director’s use of camera techniques.

The Reaping

 A high angle shot is usually when the camera angle is located above the eyeline.

A High Angle Shot is used in this scene to portray the weakness and vulnerability of the children from District 12.

Panning refers to the rotation in a horizontal plane of a still camera or video camera.

Panning is used throughout this scene to show the vast amount of children who’s lives are at risk.

Close-up shots are used in this scene to show how terrified and distraught the characters are.

This is a type of camera shot where the camera is tilted off to one side to convey the tension in the subject being filmed.

Dutch Angle

This is a type of editing technique that shows the character concerned and what they see, followed by their reaction.

Eyeline Match

At the end of this scene, the main character has a flashback to the first time she saw her fellow competitor from District 12. This flashback is very important in the development of the plot.
