The reaping is an annual event that takes place in every district before each Hunger Games, where the tributes of the upcoming Games are chosen.

The ominous and fearful atmosphere in this scene are created primarily by the director’s use of camera techniques.

 A high angle shot is usually when the camera angle is located above the eyeline.

A High Angle Shot is used in this scene to portray the weakness and vulnerability of the children from District 12.

Panning is used throughout this scene to show the vast amount of children who’s lives are at risk.
