Evaluation 2- how does your media product represent a particular social group?

My product is aimed to target a certain youth group within society in which associate their lifestyle and music taste with a variety of different music genres. It also appeals to social group in which believes in female dominance and power, woman not having to be dressed in minimal amounts of clothing in order to attract a large, particularly male audience.

The demographics of my magazine will begin in the larger cities in England where its available in larger chained stores, however, hopefully after multiple purchases of the magazine, it will route to much smaller branched stores in different parts of England.

The clothing which the artist is wearing on the front cover, contents and double spread page subverts to the stereotype that female artists/models/celebrities should wear provocative/revealing clothing, caked in make up and pose (sometimes) in an unseemly manner in order to gain attention from the audience. The artist in my magazine wears clothing in which covers “provocative” body parts, wearing minimal make up and poses respectably to the magazine and the audience to which it targets. From this, it can inspire and install the idea in young girls that a magazine with a woman on the front of it doesn’t have to dress inappropriately in order to gain readers/ buys. Overall, its aspiring and teaches the importance of dominance to young girls – and partly the respect young boys should have for women.

As my magazine is priced at the £2.75 marker, its aimed at working/middle class teens who don’t necessarily have to be affluent, but don’t mind spend a few pounds on a magazine. Its much cheaper then magazines such as Q, Billboard etc. despite being both based on same music genre. This could be beneficial for Perkz as it creates competition for the more expensive magazines/.

My magazine targets a variety of races, sex, religion, class etc. The reason why its targeted to a certain class (working/middle) is because this is the majority of the regional identity therefore aimed at most teens in England which also branch off race, religion and sexuality leading to a larger target audience.
