The Q.bloxx EC system consists of a bus coupler which can connect up to 10 Q.bloxxEC modules together in a DIN-mount configuration that is IP65 rated. Customer specified termination is available to simplify sensor interfacing. In addition, the EC system is also available in a 19” 1U rack version (Q.raxx EC) for high density mounting in a test cell. All Q.bloxx/Q.raxx EC modules are true EtherCAT slaves, each with their own controller and distributed clock (DC). They are easily configured via SDO commands, or via file transfers (FoE), allowing selection of predefined templates (e.g. 4-20mA, TCK, TCJ, full bridge, etc.) for quick and error-free set ups. EtherCAT is a very fast industrial Ethernet technology (up to 100 MBaud). Short cycle times of less than 100μS with jitter of less than 1μS supports exact synchronization that is not possible with standard Ethernet. In order to use the maximum sampling rate of Q.bloxx modules (up to 100 KHz), XFC technology (eXtreme Fast Control Technology) is utilized. Using XFC, up to 100 values can be buffered and synchronized in the Q.bloxxEC, then transmitted all at once in a single EtherCAT datagram. This oversampling technique reduces protocol overhead and provides much more signal granularity than normally possible with EtherCAT transmissions. This oversampling factor can be configured for each module allowing different sampling rates in a single polling cycle.
