Governor Nixon Visits
Missouri’s Governor Jay Nixon visited the Essex Cryo-
genics and PB&R companies on Thursday, March 3,
2011. The visit was coordinated by Ms. Ann Pardalos
from the Missouri Department of Economic Develop-
ment Office. The Governor received a ‘hands-on’ equip-
ment demonstration from corporate leaders and was able
to tour our facilities and talk to “Team Essex” members
one-on-one at their workstations. Above you see Gov.
Nixon testing the temperature without a glove, guided by
V.P. Tim Bannister, Eng. Mgr. Phil Wratchford.
Below CEO, Keith Guller & Governor Nixon.
Russ Carnahan Visits
Back in 2010, Congressman Russ Carnahan visited Essex
Cryogenics and PB&R, meeting management and greet-
ing employees. Here he is pictured with President
Mickey Waldman, CEO Keith Guller and Chairman of
the Board Sidney Guller. Below you see Randy Boofer
and Terry Etter showcasing the Cryogenics product line
and explaining their life-saving application in the field.
They especially emphasized the importance of the
Guardian Angel program.
On a separate occasion, Congressman Carnahan visited
Essex Manufacturing, the Senator stood by the time clock
greeting employees as they finished their shift, shaking
their hands and conversing.

This is her son David, and

lumbia, Illinois.

proud ‘grandpa!’

John’s daughter
Valerie and husband

He weighed 6 lbs and
11 ozs.

coming the perfect grandparents.
1,000th Time A Charm
Chuck Hamer, Asst.
Foreman Weld Shop,
Essex Cryogenics,
welds the final
touches on the one-
thousandth heat ex-
changer. Chuck did-
n’t weld all 1,000,
but he does the lion
share of them. Be-
sides welding, Cryo
also x-rays, bends,
cleans, alodines, and
assembles each one.
Question: is that 999
or 1,001 laying be-
hind Chuck?
Each heat exchanger gets 92 bends, 27 x-rays and 9 welds.
Do the math, after 1,000 pieces...that adds UP!

Vita-Minute
&
Monthly
Challenges
Coming in April will be
the ‘monthly’ challenge.
Sponsored by CIGNA
Health, our health insur-
ance provider, a monthly newsletter entitled Vita-Min,
The newsletter will highlight a focus for 30 days. Some
months will be addressing exercise, sometimes nutrition,
developing good habits, or getting rid of bad habits. Each
monthly challenge will coordinate with CIGNA’s empha-
sis and suggest tasks, recipes, activities, brainstorms to get
you thinking healthy and acting healthy. Some will only
take a few minutes to complete.
Each day of the month will give you a new idea, challenge
or task to complete. You don’t have to do everything, but
if you try them, you might see a difference—and like it?
Watch your bulletin board or the company ‘intranet’ for
the upcoming month’s theme.
We challenge you to participate as much as you can, and
give us your feedback. Also, check out CIGNA’s website
for ideas and tips on creating a healthier you in 2011.

Health
Adds Up
Making wise choices by in-
corporating better nutrition,
maintaining an exercise regi-
ment, following your preven-
tative care, all these things
‘Add Up’ in a big way.
Thankfully, this year our
health premiums only in-
creased 1.8% over 2010,
when most companies are
seeing double-digit increases year after year.
We hope to continue a trend of healthier living, commu-
nicating wellness to our employees and their families, to
further improve every year.
Thanks to your participation in the blood screenings,
health assessments, flu shots, health fairs, weight loss,
exercise programs and willingness to make a change, we
are reducing our health care costs at Essex.
Watch for upcoming events, lunch’n learns, newsletters,
health coaching through CIGNA and our EAP [H&H
Health Associates], web-based resources, and more.
We hope that not only our employees continue to im-
prove your health initiatives, but that you are also teach-
ing your family members to do the same.
Remember, everything we do…’Adds Up.’
Take advantage of the season, fresh fruit will be plentiful
at your produce stand or grocer. Strawberries are excellent
source of vitamins and anti-oxidants.
To keep them fresh:
Do not rinse them off until you are ready to eat.
Do not remove the stem beforehand
Try them with low fat cottage cheese, or wheat crackers.
Do you like baked potatoes? Try microwaving a small
sweet potato for lunch. Rinse, dry, microwave until center
is hot. Split open and you can add a tablespoon of low fat
sour cream for a great, hot lunch.
Do you like to snack? Try this homemade trail mix.
1/4 cup pretzels, cereal of choice, or wheat cracker
3 Tbsp of raisin, Craisins or dried fruit
2 Tbsp of peanuts
Mix larger quantities and divide into sandwich bags for a
portion controlled healthy snack.
