IB CONSULTATION VISIT
Monday and Tuesday were two very busy days for
the IBDP team and the consultant from the IB
Organization, Concepcion (Contxesi) Allende.
Contxesi and the IBDP team worked closely over the
two days regarding the authorization process and
discussed the next steps for ESCA. Over the next few
months, the teachers on the IBDP team will be very
busy learning about the IBDP subjects and writing
course outlines. A great aspect of the IBDP is the
freedom it allows the teachers to build a course that
is uniquely their own, taking into consideration of
both the teacher's interest and the student's
interest. The IBDP teachers will also be busy meeting
together as a group to discuss how to create a programme that is both unique and unified, as a
core principle of the Diploma Programme is the interdisciplinary teaching style and a multicultural
approach to education within a global context.
Students and parents also had the opportunity to meet with Contxesi and ask questions about the
Diploma Programme. It was good to hear the interesting questions and we hope that parents and
students now have a better understanding of the principles and philosophy of the Diploma
Programme. If you have any other questions regarding the Diploma Programme, please do not
hesitate to contact the Diploma Programme Coordinator Hana Cho at [email protected].
ART EXHIBITION
On Friday 24 April ESCA held the opening of its
second annual Art Exhibition at the Fine Arts
Museum with over 100 artworks presented,
including paintings, sculptures and even origami
creations.
Though all of the artworks were incredible in their
technique and time and energy put into it, the school
committee members selected the most remarkable
art works in each category to praise creativity of our
students.

It was a great performance and a great event

interested in educational opportunities in
Kyrgyzstan.
SCIENCE PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
There are many ways to assess student
learning and this week Year 7/8 and Year 10
had Practical Lab Assessments. Year 7/8 had to
research what an Electromagnet was and how
to build one as preparation for the Assessment
and then they used the material provided for
them to build one electromagnet each. They
had done lots of research and had no problem building an electromagnet
that worked and even after the assessment was officially over they still
continued to work to see if they could improve the strength of their
magnet.
Year 10 took theoretical knowledge from last week’s lesson and applied it in
the Lab this week. They tested if a chemical reaction is affected by
temperature or particle size and after the Lab was finished they had to
write Lab reports to interpret their findings.
It is always fun to see the students so active in the Lab because they take
the work seriously and they are so concentrated while they work.
ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING
Advisory Council represents permanent institutions in the Kyrgyz Republic with an interest in
development of the school. The Council helps to set and maintain the ethos and direction of the
school and has the right to elect three members of the Governing Board. It meets three or four
times a year to discuss development of ESCA, education issues in the Kyrgyz Republic and to elect
members of the Governing Board.
First meeting of the Advisory Council in 2014/15 was held on 1 December with Roza Otunbaeva
and the second meeting was held on Tuesday 28 April, where the Council elected a new chair of
the Advisory Council, Ambassador of France to the Kyrgyz Republic Stephane Catta, and a new
member of the Governing Board to replace Rosie Tapper, Deputy Head of Mission of the British
Embassy in Bishkek, who is stepping down as she is leaving Bishkek in May. There are two
candidates running for one position on the school´s Governing Board, Elmira Shishkaraeva, UNDP
Country Program Gender Coordinator and Keneshbek Sainazarov, Country Director of ‘Search for
Common Ground’, a conflict prevention NGO. The deadline for Advisory Council members to vote is
9:00 o´clock on Monday 4 May 2015. We look forward to counting the results and introducing the new

THIS WEEK:
This week in the Preschool jungle we blasted off into space! We have had so much fun exploring our
solar system. We talked about the stars, the planets, the sun, the moon, rockets, and astronauts. We
learned many new poems and songs about our solar system. We were very impressed that several of
the students knew that the sun was a hot star before we even talked about it on Monday. Many of
the students said that they want to be astronauts when the grow-up! ;-)
Preschool 3 are learning how to count backwards from 20. They spent the week practicing counting
to 100. We learned the new phonic sound UE and the song that goes along with it. We also continued
working in our talking groups.
Preschool 2 are learning to count correctly to 20. We also pretended to be rockets and counting from
10 to 0 before we blast off. We also worked on the letters V, R, and W. They are also doing very well
in their talking groups.
WHAT’S NEXT?
We will continue to talk about space and we will have some aliens come and visits us ;-)
REMINDERS:
1. Please have your child at school by 8:30, if you arrive after please inform the office. Late
arrivals also cause a lot of disruptions and the children are missing out in morning group
time.
2. Please be on time to pick up your children. Several days we have had some children left
after 17:30.
3. Please return your child’s folder every day.
4. If you want your child to wear sunscreen or a hat please provide them with these items
and let the teachers know.
5. Please make sure your child has an extra change of clothes in their locker.
STAR OF THE WEEK
Kais is our star of the week. Kais is new to our class but he is adjusting well. He is a very bright
student and we look forward to seeing how much he progresses this school year!
THIS WEEK:
The students had a great time at school playing inside and outside,
dancing and doing art. We discussed what birds look like and parts of
their body like beak, wings, and legs.
Math - each group had birds with numbers on and cloth pins to pin
the tail on the bird that match the numbers and they also did number
7 with colourful sticks.
Literacy - we learned some new words like a beak, wings and sang
songs related to the topic of birds.
Art - the students made play dough birds using real feathers and
handprint birds.
See you all next Wednesday! Have a lovely long break!
NEXT WEEK: Next week will be even
shorter than this. So we
will continue to talk about
birds. We will talk about
the food they eat, places
where they live, and their
babies.
REMINDERS:
1. Please provide your child with suitable clothes according to the
weather and please label them;
2. Please make sure your child has enough spare clothes in his/her locker
especially for water days and also wet wipes, pacifier, nappies if
necessary, and please label them;
3. Preschool 1 team asks that you do not bring toys from home except
Friday for “Show and Tell”. We have found that toys are extremely
distracting and tend to go missing or broken. Leaving them at home
eliminates this problem;
4. Please bring your child before 8:30 as late arrival distracts our morning
activities.
5. Please provide your child with a water bottle and a hand towel and
they need to be taken home on Fridays to be washed.
STAR OF THE WEEK
Lino – for playing nicely with friends and showing his interest
in group activities.
OTHER THINGS:
We got some new toys for
our sandpit this week. The
students are very happy.
