Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, who was in Namma Chennai on Wednesdayevening, said she would any day prefer a movie with Superstar Rajinikanththan even the angry Bond Daniel Craig.

The former Miss World and current Bollywood hottie, whose bikini ava-tar in Dostana continues to vapourise hundreds of drooling fans at the theat-res, was at the Park Sheraton Hotel to launch the Grand Carrera Calibrecollection of Tag Heuer.

Ms.Chopra arrived fashionably late but quickly apologised to the waitingmedia and fans and lost time in waxing eloquent about watches. A perfectbrand ambassador, she also spoke about Tag Heuers guest appearances in

both Fashion and Dostana. When asked if she would get back to Tamil cinema if she got an offer the disastrous Vijay-starrer Tamizhan was her first movie in fact shereplied: I love cinema, be it Tamil, Hindi or Punjabi. I had started mycareer in movies with Tamil cinema and will love to get back to it. If agood script comes my way, I would definitely go for it.

Priyanaka also lost not opportunity in endearing herself to Chennaiaudiences. When asked whom she would pick, ifshe had a choice Superstar Ranjinikanth orthe angry Bond Daniel Craig, she said: Da-niel Craig is a great actor but acting withRajinikanth is an opportunity in itselfthat no actor would want to miss.

Grand Carrera Calibre watch costsRs. 3.92 lacs with 68 diamonds stud-ded in it and is inspired by the GTrace cars. The photo sessions thatsome of the fans had with the ac-tress at the launch event was, ofcourse, priceless.

ecently, a large fruit batthat must have been a fly-ing fox was roosting at the

Theosophical Society andhad strayed into Gandhi Nagar, Adyar. It was beaten to death with sticks and rods. Itscreamed helplessly, until itsdeath.

    There are enormous amount

of misinformation and supersti-tion about these shy fruit-eatingcreatures, which keep out of the

way of people.I live in Gandhi Nagar and

have met several of these huge

bats on the terrace of our apart-ment building at very closequarters. They look like dogs

with far larger eyes and moreelongated noses and steer clearof me whenever we get close toeach other.

The unfortunate creature who was bludgeoned to deathwas probably a juvenile that gotlost on its return or wounded bykite-strings or something else.Otherwise a bat would never letitself be seen in daylight.

Flying foxes have very fewpredators, not even crows thatattack other smaller fruit bats.Their main predator is man.

    Not a blood sucker

No bats in India drink bloodVampire bats that live in the USare really tiny, insectivorousbats that lap up a few drops ofblood from cattle. Dracula orthe evil -looking vampires in the

movies are strictly fiction - thesemovies have done more harm tobats than anyone else!

    How to handle a bat

A bat which has strayed intoyour home should never be tou-ched or picked up with barehands. Drop a thick towel overit, wrap it gently and firmly (bat

wings are fine and can tear eas-ily) shift it into a basket andthen to a dark corner, a darkroom or even a dark cupboard

with holes for air. It should bekept there with someplace to hang fromand then releasedat night.

Tuesday, the machine couldntlast the four hours needed for asuccessful test run.

Another urine processor testwas planned later on Wednesday, shortly after the seven astronautson the docked space shuttle En-deavour and the three space sta-tion crew members woke up.

NASA added a 16th day to En-deavours mission so astronauts

could tinker with the urine proc-essor before the shuttle returns toEarth, possibly with the troubledequipment packed aboard. NASAmanagers had debated bringingpart of the contraption back toEarth for repairs if tests werentsuccessful.

Endeavour is now set to un-dock Friday and land in Floridaon Sunday. The urine processormakes up a section of the US$ 154million water recycling systemthat was delivered to the spacestation by Endeavour.

    Economical, eco-friendly

Petrol and diesel prices havecrashed in the international mar-ket, but for ordinary citizensthere seem to be no respite no-body is talking of a rollback, atleast till today. That probably iswhere e-bikes come into the pic-ture. Today, e-bikes are one ofthe best alternative forms oftransport both economical andenvironment-friendly.

How much do you save on an

e-bike in comparison to a petrol-run vehicle? A typical petrol-dri-ven vehicle requires one to spendaround Rs.1.20 per km on run-

ning costs, beside an annualmaintenance that comes toaround Rs. 2,000 per year.

Srinivasan K.B., General Man-ager, E-Bikes, TI Cycles of India, explains: Battery-driven scoot-ers, on the other hand, spendaround Rs. 0.08 per km as run-ning cost for the electricity con-sumed for charging. However, the battery costs between Rs.4,000 and Rs. 8, 000 and depend-ing on the model chosen you

would have to replace it once in18 - 24 months.

Now, if we assume the userrides only 600 km a month, this

would mean 10,800 km for everybattery change, meaning Rs.0.25per km to Rs.0.75 per km of bat-tery cost. If you add this to the

running cost, battery-operatedscooters would still be more eco-nomical to run by 30 to 70 percent.

If you are not looking for greatspeed in your bike, models with aspeed of 25 km/hr or below areeven more economical.

    Brand mattersThere are a dime-a-dozen

manufactures cashing in on thee-bike market. The industry ispretty young, so make sure youbuy from a reputed player. Pref-erably, a player with a pan-Indianpresence rather than one restrict-ed to a state or two. A company

with R&D or manufacturing facil-ity should be even moretrustworthy.

Remember, the ARAI (Automo-tive Research Association of In-dia) certification is more for

conformance to mandatory reg-ulations, but does not hold anyguarantee for product perfor-mance, quality or reliability. So,

dont get carried away if yourdealer boasts of having certifica-tions.

Long live the bikeThats another hundred-dollar

question. What is the life span ofan e-bike? Well, just like your or-dinary bike, e-bikes also dependon how much care and mainte-nance you give it. But, unlike oth-er vehicles here the annualmaintenance cost is negligible asthere are fewer mechanical parts. The cost of changing the battery,

which is around Rs. 5,000, is themajor expense you have to incuronce every two years. The bat-tery has a life span of up to 30,000km in most cases, after which it

has to bechanged, says UmaPachaiyappan, proprie-tor, Sairam Motors, deal

    with Ultra Motor.

Four years after being a judgeon dance reality showNachBaliye, filmmaker-actor Far-han Akhtar is returning to

TV as the host of Oye! Its Friday. And there are all chances of himturning producer for the smallscreen in the near future.

Production for television is astrong possibility I have in mindfor future. We have been thinkingover it and I do have a team thathas been brainstorming over theidea for some time now. But myhands are so full right now, itstough to take a call on it, saysFarhan.

As of now, I am dedicating mytime entirely to my films. Devot-ing time to decide the creative as-pect of a show we want toproduce is not something I feel ispossible. But it will happen so-metime, he adds.

Farhan is really excited aboutOye! Its Friday!, which will go on

    air December 12 on NDTVImagine.

Oye! Its Friday! seemed like just the concept I wanted to do. After I did Nach Baliye, I wasntaverse to the small screen, buteveryone was offering me similarreality shows. But when I was ap-proached for this show, I wasquite excited. They are trying to

do something different with TVcontent and the concept is so-mething new for Indian produc-tion, says Farhan.

The show is all about entertain-ment sans any specific format. Ithas humour, music, dance per-formances and celebrity guestsall rolled into a one-hour show.

Farhan will host the first fewepisodes of the weekly show andthen another celebrity will takeover the task from him.

Farhan, who has proved hismettle as an actor with hit RockOn!!, says he took up this showbecause he could bring alive hisown creativity through it.

I can apply my original, signa-ture style of humour to this show

without having to use the usualstuff on TV, which is mostly slap-stick. I am scripting the show andI hope to grab new eyeballs andadd a new contingent to the smallscreen with this show.

As a filmmaker, Farhan has giv-en hits like Dil Chahta Hai,

Lakshya and Don: The Chase Be-gins Again and has felt a constantneed to diversify.

With two acting projects LuckBy Chance and a psychologicalthriller already in his kitty, Far-han says his final calling is filmsand entertainment.

I dont think these two need tobe broken down any further.

Whatever I do, I believe I want todo it and I can do it. If there iseven a one percent doubt in mymind about it, Ill never do it. Soas long as I can experiment withvarious fields in entertainment, I

    will, he signs off.IANS

    The funniest man

    shes worked with

    O

scar-winner Reese Wither-spoon says she is baffled byreports of tension betweenher and co-star Vince Vaughn

on the set of new holiday seasoncomedy Four Christmases.

Speaking in Beverly Hills ahead ofthe new films US release onWednesday, Witherspoon describedtowering Wedding Crashers starVaughn as the funniest man shehas worked with.

Every co-star I ever work with Imeither having an affair with him, Imabout to get married with him, orhaving a baby or we absolutely can-not stand each other, Witherspoon(32) said of gossip reports.

We got along great, we were ve-ry good friends and we were verymuch partners on this movie, add-ed Witherspoon, who won an Acad-emy Award in 2006 for her

performance in Johnny Cash biopicWalk the Line.

Vince is the funniest person Iveever worked with.

It was a challenge for me to staythere and keep up with him. But Ifeel really a better actor for that ex-perience, she added.

The difference in height betweenWitherspoon and Vaughn hestands at 65, she is a petite 52 did cause headaches.

In some dancing scenes Vaughnwas required to carry Witherspoonin order for her to fit in the cameraframe. Witherspoons latest rolesees her and Vaughn play a couplewho are forced to abandon theirplans for an exotic Christmas vaca-tion and must visit their four parentsseparately over the holiday period. The chaos that ensues forces themto re-examine their relationship.

Mother-of-two Witherspoon, whodivorced actor Ryan Philippe in 2007and who is now romantically linkedto Brokeback Mountain star JakeGyllenhaal, said she was attracted bythe story of juggling family commit-ments at Christmas.

Id never seen anyone do the

idea of the blended family and howthey have to go to a million differ-ent places at Christmas, she said.

But I hear people complainabout it constantly and its a situa-tion my own children will have todeal with.
