ERASMUS PROGRAM
OUR ISLANDA trip to Sicily represents a unique and unforgettable experience. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean sea, famous for its warm summer and mild winter. The island as been controlled at various times by the Spanish, the Normans, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantine and the French. Each of them had a great influence on the architecture, language and cuisine. For this reason theres no other place on earth like it. Visiting Sicily is like visiting over a dozen countries in one.The capital of Sicily is Palermo.
PALERMOThe Cathedral of Palermo was erected in 1185 by Archbishop Gualtiero Offamilio. It was modified, with additions, alterations and restorations between XV and XVI centuries. The Church is dedicated to Assumption of Virgin Mary. Saint Rosalia is the patroness of the city to whom is dedicated the Meridional Chapel. The Cathedral is characterized by the presence of different styles.
Cathedral of Palermo
This theatre was projected by Giuseppe Almeyda, completed in 1874. It is in neoclassical style, it illuminates the square; its role in Palermo is central to social life. Politeama Theatre
The theatre Massimo Vittorio Emanuele is one of the largest of Europe. It was built by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile in 1875 and terminated by his son Ernesto Basile. The exterior is in the high neoclassical style incorporating elements of the Greek temples.Massimo Theatre
The square includes the Palazzo Senatorio called Palace of the Eagle, the church is of Saint Catherine and other prestigious palaces. Pretoria fountain is one of the most beautiful fountains in Italy, takes up the entire centre of the square. The fountain was created for the Medici family, to embellish a Florentine villa. But it was bought by the Senate of Palermo and transported to Sicily. It was called the fountain of shame for numerous nude figures. Pretoria Square

The church was built by Alfonso il Magnanimo in 1421, it was cathedral of Trapani in 1844.Saint Laurences Cathedral
Ligny towerIt was built in 1671 during the Spanish domination of Sicily.
AGRIGENTO
This is an archaeological site built on Hellenic period; since 1997 it is UNESCO heritage.Valley of the Temples
