Tara Farm Rcue Newsle"er 2010 This year, volunteers have been working hard to complete the various projects at Tara Farm, including the cat house and a new barn. Our dreams would not come true if it weren’t for the generosity of our many supporters. Those of you who have given us donations and those of you who have generously donated your time have been a tremendous asset to us this year. Because we rely heavily on volunteers, our projects may take a little longer than some people anticipate. Rarely does anything happen overnight, but the work does get done. When finances are in order, and the weather cooperates, volunteers can complete their tasks. Rarely do all three things come together at the same time. Tara Farm is successful not only because of our supporters, but because of our resourcefulness. Thank you for your time, support, and patience. Our mission is to protect all animals, both big, and small. Thank you for helping us do just that. With each breath an animal makes, and with each step an animal takes, it is because you have helped carve out their path to wellness. What better thanks is there, than that? You are light in their dark, and love in their hearts. Together, we have brought life back in their eyes and love back in their lives. “I expect to pa "r#gh "$ world but onc% Any good, "erefore, "at I can do, or any kindns "at I can ow to any feow creatur, let me do it now. Lessons on Love and LossTara Farm Says, “Goodbye,” to the Weed Brothers . . .

It was just after the New Year, a time when people took down their Christmas decorations and threw their trees out by the curb. I had planned to meet volunteer, Agnes, at the barn. It would be my first time meeting everyone. It would be my first time meeting the Weed Brothers.

I got out of my car, and there was Agnes, tree in tow, trudging past the gates and into the pasture where the Weeds would often sit, rump to rump, soaking up the sun.

Ragweed had this special thing for trees. He got excited as Agnes walked up to him, holding the cut end of a tree, dragging the branches across the dirt. I stood at a distance, afraid to approach. I had never seen such a large animal before. Christmas trees are large, but Ragweed bent over, picked up the tree with his skewed horns, tossed his head, and flung the

tree like it was a piece of paper. A ragdoll for Ragweed. . .

Milkweed and Ragweed were inseparable. So it happened that one day, they were both here, greeting everyone with their soulful, chocolate-truffled eyes, and within two weeks, they were both gone.

First, we said, “Goodbye,” to Milkweed. Everyone knew that it was his time, but two weeks later, the folks at Tara would wake to find that Ragweed quietly left in the night to join his friend. . .

There’s more in the soil at Tara besides just dirt and mud. There’s magic beneath, and it heals what others call hopeless, embracing the burden of so many animals throughout the years. You see, Tara holds a special place for animals when they get here, and Heaven

holds a special place for them when they leave.

We wouldn’t be the caring individuals who make this rescue a success if we weren’t heartbroken over the loss of these truly gentle giants, and we are. We really, really are.

“Goodbye, Milkweed and Ragweed. We’ll see you when it’s our turn to cross the Rainbow Bridge.” ~ Stacey

Tara Farm Rescue is a kid-friendly facility,

offering tours, 4-H, and other educational

opportunities such as riding lessons.

There’s also the availability for children to

learn about the other residents at Tara,

such as the llamas, pot-bellied pigs, goats,

chickens and more. Call ahead for a tour.

Pony Parties

Tara Farm Rescue now offers pony parties,

and 2010 was a great year for them. We

also held pony rides at Lyman Orchards, in

Middlefield, CT., and we will be doing it

again, in 2011. We’d like to thank all the

folks at the Lyman Orchards who let us be

a part of their celebrations.

Every pony party is a chance for the rescue

to make money for the animals which often

come to us in a severely neglected state.

Our animals thrive on the affection of

children. Give us a call for more

information about scheduling a pony party

for your child.

Everyone must do their part. . .

The 4-H girls enjoy taking part in the care

and maintenance of all the animals at

Tara. Here, they enjoy exercising the

horses and also help us show the horses to

potential adopters. Children also come for

lessons at the farm, enjoying the

atmosphere of all the goings-on. Some

people who adopt an animal, choose to

remain at Tara, boarding their animal

here, and remaining a part of Tara Farm’s

large group of people who are all here for

one reason - a great big love for animals. It

is the mission of Tara Farm to ease the

suffering of animals, but in return, they

sometimes heal us humans.

Our new cat house is nearing completion. The cats can’t wait to utilize this space that sits at the heart of Tara Farm Rescue.

These animals would not exist today, if it weren’t for the folks at Tara Farm Rescue, and much needed donations from the public. We are funded by private donations and are staffed (and blessed) with a group of volunteers and professionals who assist Tara Farm in its mission to love and protect all animals. Tara Farm Rescue is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization. This means that your donations are tax-deductible.

Visit our website at: www.tarafarmrescue.org, where you can check out our wish list and read more about our animals. You can also visit petfinder.com, where we post all our animals that are available for adoption.

Tara Farm is trying to go greener! Our manure pit is now contained, and will also be covered. In an effort to comply with the United States Department of Agriculture specifications, the manure will be rotated and covered, which will keep fly infestation down. We will also be reusing the manure for fertilizing hay fields.

We also had a concrete slab poured, in another area at the farm, which will be used as a stock for veterinary and wound care, and also by the farrier. This will make their jobs much easier to do. Thanks again, to all our supporters, for making this happen. Tara Farm wishes you all, a great 2011.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Paul Kutcher for his unique way of procuring supplies for farm projects.

We’d also like to thank JoAnn Marrero, at www.equineeyes.com, for generously helping Tara Farm with our website, for so many years.
