1 About this document

This document provides a list of all hardware (HW) products (rack mechanics,cartridges, plug-in units and required accessories) of the DX 200 BSC2iapplications (upgraded from BSC2E or BSC2A) with General Packet RadioService (GPRS), Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE) andServingMobile Location Center (SMLC)options. This delivery is composed either of onerack BCBE (Base Station Controller Basic Equipment) or of two racks BCBE andBCEE (Base Station Controller Extension Equipment), and of the Group SwitchGSWB and other standard units. The actual equipping list (in chapter Equipmentlists) includes the physical positions of hardware items inside the rack. Thedocument serves both as a guide for building the BSC2i from the BSC2E orBSC2A, and as a document in the Site Documents manual.

1.1 Usage of terms

The acronyms BSC2, BSC2A, BSC2E and BSC2i are explained in the Table

below. When the information in the text is only applicable to one of the variants,the name of that specific variant is used.

1.2 Notations used in Equipping lists

The positions are presented in the form of a table. The table (in chapter 3) hasfollowing six columns:

• Position shows the coordinates inside the rack and the number of the slotin the cartridge. (F = Front, B = Back, R = Upper, S = Lower)

• Identification shows the identification code of the rack, cartridge, plug-inunit or accessory.

• Name shows theabbreviated name of theHW product for the identificationcode in the previous column. The abbreviations are listed in chapter 4.

• Cartridge shows either the name and number of the cartridge orFunctional Unit equipped into the cartridge in this particular position.Functional Unit name is given when one cartridge forms one functionalunit.

• FU shows the name and number of the Functional Unit, which contains theplug-in units listed below and equipped to this cartridge position.

• Notes column includes additional information, for example, the order inwhich the ETs should be equipped. There may also be an 'Option' markingin this column when the existence of a particular HW product depends oncustomer's choice.

When two or three different HW products can be equipped in the same position,the identification code and name of each type is given.

About this chapter

This chapter provides information on the equipping rulesof the BSC2i (ANSI andETSI) racks when upgraded from the BSC2E and BSC2A, and an introduction tothe equipping listings shown in the chapter following.

2.1 Functional Units

The BSC2E and BSC2A and BSC2i equipment consists of several functionalunits. The maximum configuration of the BSC2 and BSC2i equipment is shownin the table below.

2.2 Upgrading BSC2 to BSC2i, upgrade kits (S9)

This section lists the hardware products that are used for upgrading the BSC2E

and BSC2A into BSC2i applications in Release S9. The actual position of theseadded and changed units are shown in the tables in chapter Equipment lists.

Cartridges:

• Two extra ET5C cartridges (standard BSC2A and BSC2E cartridges, onlythe number is increased)

Upgrading the OMU:

• One CP6LX with 64 MBytes RAM, MS64M

• Two MBIF-UAs replace the current MBIF-Ts

• One AS7-V replaces the current AS7-U in ETSI environment

• One SERO-T added and connected to panel CBD8

• One CBD8, a new panel for 4 LPT and 4 MML interfaces (from SERO-T)

• SCSI cabling changed

• A new cross-connection module to the OMU (PCMCO05, to rearrangePCMs)

• Two DMCT2-S terminators added for DMC-bus in MC1C cartridges

• Alarm cables for mass memory cartridges added

Upgrading the MCMUs:



• Two DMCT2-S terminators added for DMC-bus in MC1C cartridges

Upgrading the BCSU:



• Three AS7-Vs replace the current AS7-U units (ETSI)

• Two AS7-Vs replace the current AS7-US units, one AS7-US is required(ANSI)

• Two DMCT2-S terminators added for DMC-bus in MC1C cartridgesunless they have been added earlier

Miscellaneous:

• A bottom shelf is added to BCEE rack for the ET5Cs

• GSWB cables for the extra ET2s

• One additional SW64B plug-in unit in both SW1C cartridges (=192PCMs).

• A new front panel connector SWBUS3 is needed for the third SW64Bplug-in unit.

Upgrading Kits

Upgrading of the existing BSC2 to High Capacity model, BSC2i requires somenew items, plug-in units and required accessories. The new plug-in-units are soldin upgrade kits; the High-Capacity Common Unit kit and the Upgrade BCSU kit.The High-Capacity Common Unit kit includes the MCMU and OMU upgrades,for example, new processors and signalling cards. The upgrade BCSU kitincludes the items required for the BCSU upgrading. These kits are described inthe separate documents.

2.3 BSC2i with GPRS option (S9)

In the BSC2i, the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) functionality is anoptional software feature. This feature is implemented by installing the followingitems (indicated by bold font in the tables presented in chapter Equipment lists):

• third SW64B plug-in unit and SWBUS3 in the SW1C cartridges of theBCBE rack (prerequisites for GPRS upgrade; see chapter Equipment lists).

• PCU plug-in unit, DMCT2-S terminators and CFN PCM cables for thePCU in the MC1C cartridges (BCSU funtional units) of both racks (seesection Equipping the BCSUs with PCU plug-in units in this chapter,chapter Equipment lists and the companion document InterconnectionCables).

DMCT2-S terminators are installed unless they have been installed earlier.






2.4 S10 upgrade deliveries

Basic upgrade

The S10 Release basic upgrade requirement for the BSC2i (upgraded fromBSC2), a 64-Mbyte CPU in the MCMU, OMU and BCSU, is already met as theBSC2i has previously been equipped with the CP6LX.

GPRS/EDGE option

The GPRS/EDGE option includes the following new hardware products:

• fourth SW64B and a front panel connector SWBUS4 in the GSWBs

• second PCU plug-in unit (PCU, PCU-S or PCU-T) in all BCSUs

• two new ET5C cartridges (ET5C7 and ET5C8).

SMLC option

The SMLC option includes CP6MXs (provided with the MS128M memorymodule) in the MCMUs. More information on the memory requirements isavailable in the Technical Notes published through the Nokia Online Services(NOLS).

2.5 S10.5 upgrade deliveries

The S10.5 release requires 2 x MS64M memory modules for CP6LX in the OMUand MCMU functional units. In new upgrade deliveries, however, the CP6MXwith 128 MBytes RAM, MS128M replaces the CP6LX and the AS7-X replacesthe older AS7 variants.

2.6 Equipping the racks

2.6.1 Introduction

The BSC2E, BSC2A and BSC2i applications are composed of two racks: BCBE(Base Station Controller Basic Equipment) and BCEE (Base Station ControllerExtension Equipment). The BCBE rack includes all basic functional units of theBSC, such as GSWB, MCMU, CLS and OMU. It also has space for a maximumof three (3) BCSUs and two ET5C cartridges, or 32 PCMs. The BCEE rack hasspace for six (6) additional BCSUs and seven (7) ET5C cartridges, or 112 PCMs(total number is 144 PCMs).



Equipping rules



To upgrade the BCSUs, MCMUs and OMUs from BSC2 to BSC2i remove andinstall the items listed in the tables in section Equipment list for BCBE rack. Therequired cables are shown in the companion document Interconnection Cables.

2.6.2 Equipping the ET functional units

The ET2 plug-in units (ET2A in ANSI environment; ET2E and ET2E-C, orET2E-S and ET2E-SC in ETSI environment) must be equipped into the ETfunctional units (ET5C cartridges) in the order shown in the Equipment ist (Notes

/ Inst. order:).

2.6.3 Equipping the OMU with X.25 and LAN interfaces

There are three alternative ways to design the X.25 connection from OMU to the

NMS (OMC): one 64 kbit/s timeslot in one 2 Mbit/s G.703 PCM trunk at the Ainterface (between the BSC and the MSC), or an external packet network. Whenthe 2 Mbit/s G.703 option is used, an AS7 plug-in unit provides the connection.When the packet network option is used, an AC25-S unit provides the X.25connection. There is also an option to have an other X.25 link to the NMS forredundancy (F08). For LAN connection in the BSC2i applications no extra unitis required, because the processor unit CPU is provided with a LAN interface(cable with RJ45 connector to the front panel of the CPU).

The three alternatives for NMS (OMC) interface are shown in the table below.

2.6.4 Equipping the BCSUs with AS7 units

The BCSUs can be equipped with three AS7 plug-in units. The AS7-V is thedefault variant, but the AS7-US is compulsory in the ANSI environment (BSC2i)

when the 7-bit signalling system CCS7 is used in the A interface (towards MSC).By default the slot for the AS7-V or AS7-US with CCS7 channels is number F05,but the usage of the AS7 units can be freely defined by the user. The slots F06 andF07 accept only variants AS7-V plug-in units.

In S10.5 Release deliveries, the AS7-X replaces the older AS7 variants in BSC2i.

CCS7 channels for A interface

The equipping of the common-channel signalling (CCS7) interface includes oneAS7-V or AS7-US plug-in unit. The capacity of the AS7-US is four CCS7channels and that of the AS7-V is sixteen CCS7 channels. The interface performsthe functions associated with the control, supervision and message transmissionof the CCS7 channels. The AS7-US must be used in the BSC2i in the ANSIenvironment when the 7-bit signalling system CCS7 is used in the A interface(towards MSC).


LAPD interface

The LAPD interface is equipped with AS7-V plug-in units. The capacity of theAS7-V is 64 LAPD channels. The layer 2 LAPD functions are implemented byAS7-V. The AS7-V variants are applicable in the BSC2i (ANSI) and BSC2i(ETSI) applications.

Trunk circuit supervision interface

The trunk circuit supervision interface is composed of an AS7-V plug-in unitwhich collects and processes the information obtained from the exchange

terminals indicating the operating state of the trunk circuits and the error ratio of the transmission. The AS7-V variants are applicable in the BSC2i both ANSI andETSI applications.


2.6.5 Equipping the BCSUs with PCU plug-in units

When GPRS option is used, every BCSU is equipped with one PCU (PCU, PCU-S, PCU-T) plug-in unit (slot F09).

When GPRS/EDGE option is used, every BCSU is equipped with another PCUplug-in unit (PCU, PCU-S, PCU-T) in slot F08.

2.6.6 Equipping the OMU (slot F05) with AS7-V unit

The unit slot F05 in the OMU is equipped with an AS7-V/AS7-X plug-in unit.This unit provides the control link (LAPD) to the TCSM2, and this variant isapplicable here in the BSC2i (ANSI and ETSI) applications.

2.7 Equipping the message bus

The figure below shows the routing of the message buses in one-rack and two-rack configurations. Both ends of the message bus must be terminated withterminal resistors TRM9 (listed in section Equipment list for BCBE rack).
