OVERVIEWThe sport of Equestrian has been part of Moreton Bay Colleges’ sporting history. Team numbers have changed throughout the years which has been a reflection on the local area changing from rural living to residential.

Over the years, MBC riders have represented the College at both State and National level.

In 2015, riders from MBBC joined the Interschool competition.

INTERSCHOOL QUEENSLAND (IQ) It is expected that the riders support one another at competitions. When not competing, cheering for and encouraging one another in an appropriate manner is essential for building team spirit and morale. The Secondary riders have the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skill and support the Primary riders. If a rider has a grievance at any stage, the correct protocol is to speak directly to the Coordinator and not attempt to the issue themselves.

“Interschool aims to promote equitation, education and equestrian sport in school programs within Queensland and to encourage the development of discipline, character, sportsmanship, teamwork and a sense of achievement in Interschool riders in Queensland.” – Equestrian Queensland Interschool website

Interschool Queensland is a school-based competition for Equestrian Queensland members, that provides opportunities to compete against riders from other schools in your age group as a horse/rider combination. Interschool is based on the official EA rules in order to acquaint the riders with the national competition programme allowing for a smooth transition to Official Competition.

There are 6 different types of competition offered:

• Dressage

• Jumping

• Eventing

• Show Horse

• Showman

• Combined training

Competitions are generally conducted throughout the year by schools, clubs and EA groups as tag on days and are run under EA rules. It is important for IQ riders to check on the IQ calendar that the competitions they are entering are IQ qualifiers.

Many IQ competitions are run on a two tier system to encourage all riders to participate at a safe level that will challenge their ability, while providing a good standard for all.

The first tier relates to training level classes where riders can compete and gain points for their school, win ribbons and trophies (where provided) and gain confidence and experience.

The second tier are classes that equate to EA levels of competition and these classes can be used as qualifying classes for the State and National championships.

HOW DO I KNOW WHATS GOING ON?All communication will be sent via email.

There will be two Equestrian Team Meetings for Riders per term (Monday lunch time).

Riders will be notified via email and the Student Notices.

EXPECTATION OF RIDERS/PARENTS• To ensure all the correct paperwork and registrations have been paid to the following organisations:

Equestrian Australia, Interschool Queensland and Moreton Bay College.

• To ensure that both horse and rider are registered to compete. At the beginning of each calendar year make sure you have paid your EA membership and renewed your IQ membership information – this is a two-step operation. Simply renewing your EA membership does not automatically renew y-ur IQ membership.

• Make sure you have your unique IQ number for each horse you intend to compete with in this new competition year and note each horse’s number somewhere safely so you don’t get confused. Remember, numbers must be on both sides of the horse. Tip: Spares can be made by photocopying and laminating the originals.

• IQ numbers and other paperwork with you. You may be asked to show these to verify a horse’s ownership or competition history at an event in the case of disputes or swabbing. Horse Health Declarations forms are required for each competition.

• MBC levy to be paid through the MBC website online payments system - no rider is permitted to compete for MBC prior to paying the levy.

• It is the responsibility of the Rider to nominate themselves for competitions.

• To notify the Equestrian Coordinator of any events you have nominated for via email.

• To notify the Equestrian Coordinator of your results (placed or unplaced). Please email through your results and any photographs so these can be kept on file for Newsletters etc.

• To ensure the College’s high standards in dress, appearance and behaviour are adhered to at all times when representing the College.

• To ensure all Equestrian Australia and Interschool Queensland rules are adhered to at all times. Please refer to the rule books on the Interschool Queensland website.

• To receive regular lessons by a Coach to ensure both horse and rider combination are fit and capable to compete in the selected discipline.

HORSE WELFARE• It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their horse has received the necessary training with a

Coach and preparation before representing the College at any event.

• The Equestrian Coordinator has the right to stop a rider from representing the College if she believes the horse is not ready to compete due to health, fitness or training and preparation.
