LIVING OUR FAITH

Thank you to everyone who responded so generously to the announcement requesting Fall Festival volunteers this past week. We still need more help, so please do see if you have a few hours to come up sometime that weekend and pitch in. Fall Festival raffle tickets have been mailed out. Please consider purchasing some – this is the fundraiser that brings in the most money for us each year and helps us balance our annual budget. Altar Servers Wanted We would like to train some additional altar servers to help out, especially with the Sat evening Mass. There is no age minimum. Younger servers are encouraged to join and participate as much as they can, the older servers can handle the more difficult duties. You can serve as much or as little as you like. The way I see it, the more al-tar servers at Mass, the better! Let me know if you're interested and I'll do the training anytime. Children's Choir registration is now open online. The Children's Choir practices on the 2nd and 4th Tue of each month, 6:30-7:45 pm. PSR children are automatically enrolled, but the choir is for all of our parish children who would like to learn to sing and contribute to our Sunday worship. The Choir will sing at one Sunday Mass per month. PSR Registration is now open online. PSR begins with a parent-meeting and orientation for the kids on Tue, Sep 4 at 6:30 pm in the Church. They meet every Tuesday 6:30-7:45 pm through May. Interested in hosting a Donut Sunday? Let me know. I'm starting to make the fall schedule. It's a great and easy way to get to know new friends. Mass Explanations - Kids say their favorite part of Mass I asked children in the parish to tell me their favorite part of Mass. I was surprised that almost every child had a different answer. I guess we never know what they're seeing and remembering! “I like altar serving. I get to see everything.” "I like the songs that I can sing." "Big one Church. I see Jesus." “The part where you do the backwards circle.” [This stumped me for a minute. He means with the incense over the chalice at the preparation of the altar] “When we get to sing the Latin like we learned in children's choir.” [I do notice the kids sing those parts really loud!] “The elevation of the Host.” “Receiving Communion.” "Alleluia” [Before the Gospel] “When they’re getting it together!” [getting the altar ready because Jesus is almost here and we're preparing for him] “Piano.” [I think she mostly loves seeing Mrs. Elizabeth play the piano!] “Basement Church” [This took a minute to figure out. She means the children's liturgy] “From the beginning to the end.” [This is just pure flattery] “When you hold up the big chalice.”

Stewardship “Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise…” EPHESIANS 5:15 A wise person recognizes that all we have and all we are comes from God. A wise person thanks God con-tinually throughout the day for all His many blessings. A wise person realizes that God has blessed us for a reason and that He wants us to help Him build His kingdom of earth.

PARISH COMMUNITY NEWS, NOTES & EVENTS

The success of any fundraiser re-lies greatly on its volunteers. Such is the case with our Fall Festival (formerly Homecoming). For many years, we have been fortunate enough to have a large group of very dedicated workers for our Fall Festival. Unfortunately, for a vari-ety of reasons the number of vol-unteers in this group has started to decline. That’s where you come

in. While we would love to approach each and every one of you individually to ask for your help, time simply doesn’t allow this so we are sending out our plea through the bulletin. We desperately need and want your help! Besides helping out, this is a great way to get more involved with our parish. By volunteering to work Fall Festival, you will meet your fellow parishion-ers and get to know them better by working side-by-side. One of the positions we need to fill ASAP is that of the Set Up/Tear Down Chairperson. Duties for this posi-tion include: supervising the set up and tear down of the Fall Festival Booths which takes place from Wednes-day - Sunday (September 12-16) of Fall Festival. Hours on Wednesday & Thursday are from 6-10:00 pm; Friday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm and after closing of the Fall Festival (11:00 pm for about an hour); Saturday after closing 11:00 pm for about an hour; Sunday from ap-proximately 9:00 am until noon. You will not be com-pleting this task alone! There will be many hands on board to help! What we need from you is to supervise and help to be sure the task of set up and tear down is completed. Should you decide you can help out with this position, we will give you a detailed list of tasks and we will also have a previous committee member available to answer any and all of your questions. Please contact Trish at the parish office to volunteer for this or any other position for Fall Festival. Online sign ups will be available this week. Watch the parish website and facebook for the online link. Don’t use the internet? No problem, simply call Trish at the parish office to volunteer, 314-781-1199. We are sure to have a job to fit you!

$10,000 Fall Festival Raffle Tickets

The largest part of Epiphany’s profit from Fall Festival (formerly Home-coming) comes from our $10,000 Raffle. Raffle chances are sold for $100 per ticket (with the option to include 10 names at $10 per spot for a tenth of the prize). We also have a second prize worth $2,000. We only sell a total of 300 chances so your odds are really good! Please consider taking a chance on winning $10,000 or $2,000 by purchas-ing a Fall Festival raffle ticket. Can’t afford an entire tick-et, purchase a portion and we will add your name with others to complete an entire ticket. Tickets are starting to come into the office. Don’t wait send your ticket in today! Help us sell all 300 tickets by taking an extra ticket to work or to a family event and sell the $10 portions or maybe even an entire ticket! Proceeds from our Fall Festival help to keep our budget balanced for the year! Tickets can also be purchased online at: https://epiphanystl.weshareonline.org/

Fall Festival Volunteers

Needed

Insurance policies are often bought by individuals or couples with young children to help insure that, in the event of an untimely death of one or both parents, resources are available to help raise the children. Frequently, these policies have an investment element to them as well, which may be borrowed out of the policy for major expenses such as college tuition. Thankfully, in many cases, the insurance never becomes necessary for either of these purposes, which leaves many people trying to figure out what to do with policies that they no longer need. Why not consider a gift of such a policy to Epiphany? If an outright gift of such a policy (i.e., one in which you retain no rights in the policy) is made during your life, you may receive an income tax deduction (subject to certain limitations) equal to the lesser of your investment in the policy (total premiums paid) or its cash surrender value. You may even deduct (again subject to certain limitations) ongoing premiums you pay on the policy on behalf of our parish. Alternatively, you may just wish to name our parish as beneficiary at your death, which will be deductible for estate tax purposes (if applicable). This would allow you to retain the benefits of the policy during your life, but still benefit our parish at your death with funds that are no longer necessary for the care of your family. For more information on giving a policy to Epiphany please contact the Office of Stewardship and the Annual Catholic Appeal at 314.792.7680.
