Devotions: Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in Our Lady's Chapel (day and night) Monday after 6:45 am Mass to Friday 7:00 pm. Rosary recited after 9:00 am Mass every day. Miraculous Medal Novena, Mondays after 9:00 am Mass. Divine Mercy Chaplet, Fridays after 9:00 am Mass.

High School of Religion (HSOR): Join us on Wednesday nights (during the school year) from 7:30-9:00pm at IHM School.

Happy Feast of the Epiphany! Did you ever pay attention to the verses of the popular Christmas hymn, “We three Kings” The song was written in 1857 by John Henry Hopkins, Jr. Each king sings and presents his gift and we respond to each king’s gift to the Lord with the refrain, “O star of wonder, star of night…guide us to thy perfect light.” On this wonderful feast of the Epiphany, the manifestation of the Lord to the world, let us read the song again and appreciate the words that help us adore before the newborn king. Let us give him the very gift of ourselves.

We three kings of Orient are, bearing gifts we traverse afar,

field and fountain, moor and mountain,

following yonder star.

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain, gold I bring to crown him again,

King for ever, ceasing never

over us all to reign.

Frankincense to offer have I: incense owns a Deity nigh;

prayer and praising, gladly raising,

worship him, God Most High.

Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom;

sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,

sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

SHED BAD HABITS IN THE NEW YEAR Bad habits are sinful inclinations acquired through repetition. Unless we overcome them, they come between us and God and can destroy our peace. Working to over-come our bad habits puts us on the path to true holiness.

Identify the root. It sounds simple, but recognizing what causes us to sin repeatedly is the first step to over-coming the behavior. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to do. It can be uncomfortable to look at our failings, but change won’t come without courage. Ask for help if you need it.

Replace a bad habit with a good one. Once we under-stand what is behind our bad habits, we can replace them with new and healthy ways to deal with the under-lying issue. If we overeat or drink too much when stressed, for example, we can adopt exercise or medita-tion to cope instead.

Eliminate triggers. Make it easier to cure bad habits by avoiding the conditions that nurture them. Do you want to avoid eating junk food? Don’t have it around you at home or at work. Want to change a gossip habit? Avoid the people with whom you gossip. Change your environ-ment to change your behavior.

Find good influences. It may not be necessary to lose your old friends, but consider finding new ones who al-ready live the way you want to live.

During an epidemic, every-one in his care was miraculously healed. He helped build a beautiful chapel to St. Joseph.

MEN’S ANNUAL SPIRITUAL RETREAT A joint venture of the Holy Name Societies of IHM, Annunciation, and Our Lady of Fatima is sponsoring the Annual Holy Name Retreat on the weekend of Friday, Jan. 31 - Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020. All men (inside and outside of the parish) are invited to take part in this spiritual renewal. It starts with dinner at 6PM Friday and ends Sunday with lunch. Total cost is $250 per person, which includes all meals, refreshments, and single occupancy room for both nights. It is being held at the Don Bosco Retreat House (174 Filors Lane, Stony Point, NY). Msgr. Dermot Brennan will facilitate the retreat talks, and Fr. Matthew Ernest from St. Joseph’s Seminary will also provide valuable insights. At the time when Jesus was born it was a common belief that a new star appeared at the time of a rulers birth. The Maji believed following

the star would bring them to Jesus, the newborn king, and it did!
