The Bedouin communities in theNegev are surrounded by and partof a highly delicate desertecological system. Most of theNegev Bedouin are very familiarwith nature; until recently mostmade their living as shepherds, and were therefore dependent onnatural systems. Though this is nolonger the case, the Bedouin stillconstitute the main influence onthe sensitive ecosystem of thedesert.

As with other communities inIsrael, the Bedouin carry outvarious activities that damageopen spaces, nature, and landscape.Sometimes the damage is long-term to resources the communityenjoys. In short: damage to theenvironment means damage to thecommunity’s quality of life.
