The main role of production is to turn inputs into

outputs. Outputs refer to a finished product or service

and inputs are the materials that are needed to

manufacture certain goods. When a business

completes this process they are able to achieve

customer satisfaction by producing products that are

ready to be used and fit for purpose.

The production department is responsible for ensuringquality is achieved in each item produced. They will

need to carry out inspections and implement suitable

quality initiatives. This is one of the major duties of this

department because if mistakes are made on products,

customer satisfaction will be decreased or if products

are ruined during the production process it means that

the company will have to throw "bad" products away(creating waste).

Both aspects will lead the company to a loss ofprofit. Quality assurance will have to be

carried out everyday on a number of

occasions to ensure that the productionprocess is working efficiently and effectively.

For example Coca-Cola will carry out

approximately 200 inspection per day to

ensure quality is being achieved and also to

make sure all equipment is running well.

The first step in producing "Coca-Cola" is to make

syrup of sugar and water. This is what we refer to as

simple syrup and in order to get simple syrup the

water is boiled. The science behind this: sugar, commonly known as sucrose, is made of two

smaller sugars, glucose and fructose. When boiled

in water, these two separate and make a sweetenerthat is sweeter than the original. The water is

    carefully purified because for "Coca-Cola,

absolutely top quality ingredients are required.

To be certain that the water used for

bottling the finished product is clean and

pure, quality control technicians test the

water frequently to make sure the water isin the right state. Clean water also

    facilitates the production process and

    maintains consistency in flavour and

    colour.

"Coca-Cola" concentrate is added to the syrup. This flavour

base for "Coca-Cola Company manufacturing plants remains

one of the world's great trade secrets.T

echnicians carefullysample, check and record the blend of each batch of syrup.

After blending, it is ready to have the 'bubbles' or

carbonation, added. Strict quality control is

the reason "Coca-Cola" is famous for a perfect

    level of 'bubbliness'.

An army of glass and PET (Polyethylene

terephthalate) bottles, as well as cans, is now ready

to be filled with the finished product. The bottles

go through a throughout test: first they're washed,

    rinsed and inspected electronically and

visually, only then are they ready to be

filled with the world's most popular soft

    drink.

The conveyor , lines up bottle after bottle to

be filled automatically. This way the amount

in each is exact, and the automatic sealing of

each bottle guarantees complete hygiene. The

lines the bottles pass is know as the

    production line.

Line of machines and workers in a factory

which a product moves along while it is

being built or produced. Each machine or

worker performs a particular job, which

must be finished before the product moves

to the next position in the line then the

    bottles are capped.

Interestingly, the Coca Cola bottles from time

to time also undergo a production process in

order to give it a new look and take away

bottles that have been in existence over a long

period. Since 1899 the bottles have been

    changed over and over again.
