The key role of entrance flooring is to protect interior floor coverings and finishes by removing soil and moisture from the soles of shoes and wheel treads, preventing it from being tracked into the building. It’s a relatively straightforward process, however every location will have its own aesthetic and performance requirements. With an array of different systems to choose from and a raft of health and safety and disability discrimination legislation to adhere to, the specification of an entrance flooring system can seem daunting.

Fortunately we can help you find the right solution. This brochure has been designed to guide you through the process and to introduce you to the new Coral range of textile entrance systems.

For more than 40 years, Coral has been the international market leader in textile entrance system solutions. Coral has secured its leading position as the most widely used range of textile “clean-off” entrance products through the use of new high performance materials, improved production methods and a colour palette based on the very latest interior design trends.

The final choice of which Coral products to use depends on each individual application, but with an exceptionally versatile range of “clean-off” entrance system products to choose from, each performing a specific cleaning function, there will always be a Coral product to meet your needs.

Coral stops 90% of the walked in dirt and moistureMoisture and dirt trapping Coral

Product Selector

For over 40 years Coral has been the international leader in advanced clean-off textile entrance systems, maintaining its position at the forefront of the market through continued investment in research and development.

With an exceptional range of high performance products in a wide choice of colourways, Coral enables you to create a welcoming and beautifully co-ordinated entrance area which will provide valuable long term protection for all your interior floor finishes, keeping them clean, dry and safe.

Entrance Flooring “Zones” When planning your entrance system it is useful to consider the entrance area in terms of zones:

1 – Primary Matting Outside the building entrance primary matting is the first line of defence against footborne soil, scraping the coarsest dirt from the soles of shoes before they cross the threshold.

2 – Secondary Matting

Immediately beyond the primary matting secondary matting is often required to remove footborne moisture and finer particles of soil.

3 – Circulation Zones

Flooring leading away from the entrance area – in the reception, corridors and stairs leading to the first floor – must be specifically designed to withstand heavy traffic and intensive cleaning regimes. They will be prone to residual soiling and will inevitably require a high level of vacuuming to maintain performance and appearance.

Every day our shoes displace huge quantities of dirt and moisture. When we track this soiling into buildings we make interiors look dirty and unattractive, cause unnecessary structural damage to floorcoverings and finishes, and create health and safety hazards.

To rectify these problems costs money. It has been estimated that if effective measures are not taken to avoid unnecessary soiling, the repair and maintenance costs of a typical floorcovering over its lifespan could be nine times the cost of the original investment.

A good quality entrance matting system incorporating a Coral clean-off zone provides a very effective way to reduce this expenditure. By stopping up to 90% of walked in dirt and moisture, it can reduce cleaning bills by up to 65% and prolong the life of interior floor finishes and coverings.

Coral brush activ can be used in all types of entrance areas and is an ideal solution when you need a textile entrance system that can simultaneously absorb moisture and remove dry soiling. Independent research shows that Coral brush activ scores highly on both counts.

Its unique construction consists of three types of yarn, each offering a different benefit. Capillary yarns with their large surface area absorb moisture; active scraping yarns help to brush the soil from shoes, and heavy duty textured yarns help Coral brush activ to retain its good looks and withstand heavy pedestrian and wheeled traffic.

Between the yarns Coral brush activ has the capacity to hide a lot of dirt from view, which also helps to maintain a clean and smart appearance.

Coral brush activ boasts a palette of 25 solid and blended colourways that can be used together or in combination with other Coral ranges. For areas where there is a heightened risk of fire, Coral brush activ FR can be supplied with a flame retardant latex backing.

Coral classic has the capacity to absorb moisture like no other textile entrance system. Research shows that after just two steps across Coral classic matting, almost 50% of footborne moisture is absorbed.

Coral classic keeps all interior floor finishes beyond the entrance area clean and dry. Where carpeting is concerned, moisture absorption is important from an aesthetic point of view, particularly where light colours have been used. When hard flooring is installed, moisture absorption doesn’t just prevent dirty footprints: it becomes a critical health and safety requirement as it helps to prevent accidental slipping and sliding. Alongside its excellent moisture absorbing properties, coral classic also has special scraping monofilament yarns which actively scrape dirt off the soles of shoes.

Available in eighteen colours, cleverly selected to complement colourways in the Coral duo range, Coral classic can be integrated into any interior design scheme.

As independent tests have shown, Coral classic will provide effective performance for many years, and because it is manufactured using solution dyed yarn, it will maintain its colour and good looks throughout its lifespan.

For areas where there is a heightened risk of fire, Coral classic FR can be supplied with a flame retardant latex backing.

Coral duo provides unrivalled dirt removal and is particularly effective at trapping and retaining soil and moisture in the first few steps inside an entrance area. In fact, research shows that Coral duo retains 10% more dirt in the first few metres than any other textile entrance flooring system, which makes it an ideal choice for smaller entrances.

Coral duo combines Coral brush activ and Coral classic reinforced with tough and resilient fibres, enhanced with alternating strips of strong thick yarn with dirt scraping action. In total, five different yarns have been carefully combined to create the most effective dirt scraping capabilities of any Coral range. From schools and colleges to commercial buildings; wherever dirt is an issue, Coral duo offers an effective solution either as a stand-alone product or as the first part of a larger integrated “clean-off” system.Available in eight contemporary colours,

Coral duo can be fully co-ordinated with Coral brush activ and Coral classic ranges. Its ribbed construction is not only functional; it provides an aesthetically pleasing aspect to any entrance area.

With its rich pile height and luxurious appearance, Coral luxe may not look like a traditional matting system, but it is in fact an ideal clean-off solution for light to medium traffic areas where aesthetic appeal is a top priority.

Particularly well suited to entrance lobbies, corridors and reception areas, Coral luxe absorbs moisture from the soles of shoes and conceals dirt within the pile. Because of its luxurious look and feel, this deceptive soil and moisture barrier blends particularly well with other carpeted areas of the building.

Eight versatile colourways are available. The yarns used in Coral luxe are designed for longevity and appearance retention. They also release soil easily , which makes this attractive yet functional floorcovering very easy to clean.

Coral luxe can be supplied with an impervious Everfort backing or a fire retardant backing, both of which are suitable for intensive wet cleaning.

To get the most out of your entrance flooring system it often pays to start outside, scraping the soles of shoes and the treads of wheeled traffic before they even cross the threshold, removing the largest particles of soil at the earliest opportunity.

In these situations Coral grip is an ideal solution. A versatile non-woven clean-off barrier mat that can be used both inside and outdoors, Grip prevents grit and coarse dirt from entering the building. It has a patented embossed design and durable, pliable vinyl filaments which perform a highly effective scraping action.

The addition of granulated PVC chips add to the soil scraping properties of the non-woven construction and help to create an slip resistant surface which is effective even on an incline.

Coral grip is available in medium duty (MD) and heavy duty (HD) formats. A palette of 12 solid and blended colourways enable this tough and resilient mat to be co-ordinated with Coral entrance flooring products.

In its standard form, Coral grip has an open, non-backed, pervious structure, but it can also be manufactured with an Everfort® vinyl backing making it impervious.

It’s a well known fact that you only get one chance to make a first impression.

A professional and welcoming entrance area could be the first step to a successful business relationship with visitors to your building. Show them the pride you have in your organisation by personalising your entrance area with an impressive company logo, printed or inset into your entrance matting.

Coral logo is a special service we provide for those looking to make an impact in this way. We can create a clean-off entrance area that not only stops dirt and moisture entering the building, but allows you to express your corporate identity at the same time.

Other logo matts tend to fade and get dirty very quickly but a Coral logo mat will retain its looks and continue to impress for many years because it has all the qualities and performance characteristics of our standard Coral products. The secret is in the construction. Unlike many other bespoke mats, Coral logo is produced with matt yarns which prevent tracking and do not show soiling.

Depending on the colours required to suit your corporate identity your mat can either be cut to your exact design from standard Coral material or be printed direct onto white matting. If printing, there is an extensive palette of colours to choose from.

Please contact your local customer service to find how easy it is to personalise your entrance area.

Forbo FloorCare method

Daily cleaning It is essential to remove dry soiling at least once a day. The most effective method is to use

vacuum cleaners that incorporate a mechanically driven rotating brush or suction-only machines with a rotating brush attachment. Vacuum slowly and in all directions across the matting, to get the full effect of the combined suction and brushing.

Regular cleaning Spot cleaning

Gently clear away the spillage from the surface with a blunt scraper. Treat what is left of the spillage with a proprietary carpet spot cleaner (for polyamide pile floorcoverings) and rinse with clean water. Allow to dry. High traffic areas need additional attention, to remove concentrated surface soiling and reduce the appearance of “traffic lanes”.

•Dryextraction:thismethodusesamoistcompoundthatisimpregnated with water, detergent and safe-to-use solvents.

•Cylindricalbrushextraction:thismethodalsousesmachineswithcounter-rotatingbrushes,but this time a proprietary carpet cleaning solution is brushed into the pile and the dirty water returned straight to the machine. When it is a loose lay matting, whipping it regularly is important.

Scheduled maintenance •Atintervals,themattingshouldbetreatedwithadeepercleaningprocesscalled“spray

extraction”. This removes soiling from the base of the pile and restores the surface texture to optimise its “clean-off” performance. Factors like the type and amount of traffic, as well as the effectiveness of “Daily cleaning” and “Regular cleaning” will govern how often this deep cleaning is needed.

This process can be carried out using either a spray extraction machine or a 3-in-1 spray and brush machine. When wet cleaning is not possible a pouder cleaning is the best solution.

When it is a loose lay matting, you should spray the matt now and then with a waterhose and if necessary brush it clean.
