1 Ten Years Progress Report 2006 - 2015 Sisu Diriya conducts national programmes on a monthly basis, circumstances permitting. These events usually aim to achieve the following objectives. 1. Eliminating fear, sadness, and anxiety in the minds of those who were affected by the conflict in order that interaction among the different communities may be achieved 2. Creating a healthy social environment 3. Reducing social gaps between different ethnic groups, religions, classes and castes 4. Building a society that will constructively contribute to social development Towards these ends, the programme carries out a variety of activities including, but not limited to, providing for stationary, clothing and other basic needs of students, making available opportunities and facilities that would mould strong and balanced personalities, and encouraging the youth of the country to actively participate in policy influencing programmes and movements by creating a close relationship between politicians and students. The inaugural meeting of the ‘Nena Guna Waduma: Sisu Diriya’ National Program was held at the Sri Lanka Found 01. Institution with the Hon. President Mahinda Rajapksha in attendance. Thus far, the national programmes of Sisu Diriya have been able to successfully organize 5-day workshops on a monthly basis for 10 years, benefitting thousands of students from previous combat zones and remote areas of the country. The project is primarily funded through grants from the Presidential Secretariat and Ministers and Governors at the national and regional levels also periodically provide funding as per the instructions of the President. Most important, however, is the voluntary contribution of countless individuals, organizations, and professionals who selflessly spend their time and effort to make Sisu Diriya programmes a success. The contribution of Sisu Diriya national programmes towards reconciliation has been commendable. An extensive network of student collaboration has come into existence thanks to the events organized by Sisu Diriya. Especially Sisu Diriya Harmony societies that link schools of the North and South have enabled large scale interaction among students from different cultural backgrounds, a feat that would have been impossible in the absence of a connecting mechanism like this. Sisu Diriya conducts national programmes on a monthly basis, circumstances permitting. These events usually aim to achieve the following objectives.

1. Eliminating fear, sadness, and anxiety in the minds of those who were affected by the conflict in order that interaction among the different communities may be achieved

2. Creating a healthy social environment3. Reducing social gaps between different ethnic groups,

religions, classes and castes4. Building a society that will constructively contribute to

social development

Towards these ends, the programme carries out a variety of activities including, but not limited to, providing for stationary, clothing and other basic needs of students, making available opportunities and facilities that would mould strong and balanced personalities, and encouraging the youth of the country to actively participate in policy influencing programmes and movements by creating a close relationship between politicians and students.

The inaugural meeting of the ‘Nena Guna Waduma: Sisu Diriya’ National Program was held at the Sri Lanka Found

01.
