ENGINEERED FOR TONNAGE

MAINTAINING OUR VISION AND VALUESWe, at KWATANI, strive to be the preferred materials handling equipment and service provider, with our dedicated professional team producing engineering excellence and value for all our customers and social environment.

Guided by our values, our management and employees pledge to uphold ethics, integrity and excellence in all our business dealings.

GUNTER VOGEL, FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN OF KWATANI“It is most satisfying to see that the small company, JOEST, that I purchased in 1989 has grown into a leading OEM of vibrating equipment solutions in Africa, and I am confident that this legacy will continue under its new name, KWATANI.”

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS AS JOEST TO BEST IN CLASSWhat is today a leading South African original equipment manufacturer of vibrating equipment and solutions began as a small operation called JOEST in 1976. Originally established to import motors from Germany and assemble small vibrating equipment, JOEST (Pty) Ltd was purchased by Gunter Vogel in 1989. Under Vogel’s guidance, the South African company successfully integrated local technology into the original German designs, boosting efficiencies in the harsh African mining environment.

In May 2015, we changed our name from JOEST and are now known as KWATANI to better reflect our operating philosophy, African heritage and overall commitment to transformation in South Africa which is an important pillar in the company’s strategy. Kwatani engineers its equipment for continuous tonnage. Significantly, “KWA-TANI” means “for tonnage” in African Swahili.

Today, KWATANI’s custom engineered vibrating equipment is operating successfully on most of southern Africa’s major mines. We have a significant machine population with thousands of vibrating screens and feeders operating in the heavy and precious metals and minerals markets. Our fine screening footprint extends into a wide range of other industry sectors.

As a fully independent, privately owned South African OEM we are recognised as the industry leader in vibrating equipment solutions throughout South Africa, Africa and beyond.

SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATIONKWATANI’s shareholders and management embrace the transformation of South Africa and are committed to uplifting our employees and the communities in which we operate.

We are a level 1 BBBEE empowering contributor and 51% black women owned, making us first in our class to exceed the mining charter requirements in South Africa.

MEETING ALL VIBRATING SCREENING AND FEEDING REQUIREMENTS

SCALPING SCREENS

Coarse and fine scalping from 2 mm up to 400 mm particle size, capable of processing up to 7 000 tph.

GRIZZLY SCREENS

Extremely heavy duty up-front ROM screens with cast manganese bars designed to eliminate clogging. Typically installed ahead of the secondary crusher.

MULTI SLOPE BANANA SCREENS

High velocity and thin bed stratification over widths of up to 4,2 metres. Suitable for effective high capacity screening.

DEWATERING SCREENS

Solid liquid separation of fine size fraction products in all beneficiation processes.

PRODUCTSWe have an extensive vibrating screen and feeder reference base with machines operating across a broad spectrum of commodities and industrial applications. Our vibrating screens are custom engineered for tonnage, with the majority operating in some of the most extreme operating conditions and environments in Africa.

Individual machines can weigh less than a tonne or up to as much as 55 tonnes and offer a material throughput capacity of up to 7 000 tph of heavy metal ores. Currently, the largest vibrating screens produced are 4,3 metres wide or 12 metres long.

DRAIN AND RINSE SCREENS

Heavy media, including ferro silicon and magnetite, recovery screening applications.

FEEDERS

Brute force feeders drive by unbalanced motors or exciter gearboxes. Pipe feeders enclosed, dust controlled and tamper proof. Magnetic feeders with control logic.

FINE SCREENING

In 2012, Kwatani acquired the assets of Lockers Engineers. Kwatani continues to support the Lockers brand, established over 100 years ago, in particular in fine screening.

Using a gyratory reciprocating motion resulting in high efficiency and capacity, separating wet or dry, fine or course materials, across a multiple of decks.

DRIVES

Robust exciter gearboxes engineered and manufactured in-house to stringent quality standards. Reliable unbalanced motors developed and manufactured exclusively for KWATANI by the world’s leading motor manufacturer in Europe. Electromagnetic super feeder Lockers drives manufactured in-house and smaller magnetic drives sourced exclusively from Aviteq.

BEST PRACTICE ENGINEERING

CUSTOM ENGINEERING Recognised for our best practice design and engineering capability, KWATANI custom engineers fit-for-purpose vibrating equipment solutions to meet specific application requirements.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTWe draw on our extensive experience in harsh operating conditions integrating design improvements into our vibrating equipment. Continuous product improvement and development enables us to maintain our position as the leading vibrating equipment OEM on the African continent.

Our competent skilled and experienced in-house design and technology teams are able to accurately interpret customer requirements and translate these into solutions that are engineered for optimum throughput tonnages.

LEADING INNOVATION Our designs are produced using the latest 3D modelling and design techniques. All designs are subjected to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to verify engineering integrity. We test all vibrating equipment in our in-house test facility for conformance to the design specification under ideal operation conditions.

Our collaborative partnership with prestigious South African tertiary institutions and mine technical departments facilitates on-going research enabling us to provide and verify engineering standards for vibrating equipment.

CONDITION MONITORING FOR UPTIMEAdvanced testing and measuring technology forms part of our customer service offering enabling customers to achieve a continuous supply of production tonnage, while protecting assets and reducing the total cost of ownership. This includes test and measurement technology in real time where advanced condition monitoring is required.

EXTENSIVE FACILITIESKWATANI’S impressive facilities in Aeroport, Kempton Park, Johannesburg cover some 17 000 m2 comprising our head office, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, separate stainless steel welding, new/repair exciter gearbox and electrical motor assembly, testing and refurbishment facilities and warehouse. Our extensive warehouse facilities ensure that lead times are minimised for spare parts and newly built components.

Our facilities are designed to ensure absolute responsiveness and can handle large scale multiple machine projects while ensuring we retain the flexibility to support customers on emergency orders.

Fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, our facilities include four extensive manufacturing and assembly bays equipped with a combined crane capacity of 160 tonne. We also operate two spray booths and two shot blast facilities with combined areas of 200 m² and 140 m² respectively.

SAFETY FIRSTNo other asset in the company is as important as our people. We are committed to provide a safe and healthy work environment to ensure the health and safety of our people and any other stakeholder involved in our company.

QUALITY CULTUREKWATANI has entrenched a quality culture of designing, manufacturing and delivering trusted vibrating equipment solutions. KWATANI adheres to international best practice and ISO standards.

SERVICE COMMITMENTWe offer refurbishment programmes and customised service level agreements to prolong the life of vibrating equipment.

KWATANI is committed to securing our customers’ uptime while meeting their specific application and process requirements with 24/7 service through our comprehensive service centre and branch network located in all major mining centres.
