So Cody, tell us about your new album “The Art Of Dying”, what made you think that now was the right time to make a new album not long after “The Balancing Act” was released?After releasing “The Balancing Act”, I realised I had a lot more songs that I felt should be released than I first thought as well as constantly being influenced by things to write more songs as my life is constantly changing.

What is your favourite song on the new album? And is there any particular reason why?I would have to say “Black Rose” because it has very personal lyrics as well as having various quotes from one of my favourite films “Hotel Chevalier”.

From listening to your music, it seems like you are really influenced bymovies, due to the film quotes within your songs like “Black Rose” and you also naming your dog after a director?Yeah, movies are one of the biggest influences for my music, usually the characters from the movies draw the music for that particular song I’m working on but I’m always drawn to characters that remind me of myself.

Is rap your favourite genre?People often think that but I listen to different genres that write about different things and different ideas. My iPOD can go from classical to heavy rock.

Who are your favourite music artists are the moment?My favourite band is and always will be “Radiohead” which everyone seems to be surprised by; I also listen to Lotte Kesner who is a good friend of mine and Kristoff Krane.

Many of your fans have your lyrics tattooed on them, how does it feel when you see that?I think it’s mad but I’m making music for the rest of us to relate to rather than becoming mainstream.

So Cody, what do you think will be next for you?I’m just searching for some beauti-ful, a dream that I can catch and a person who’s usual. I just want to live the dream and find someone to share my life with really.

What else or who else do you feel strongly influences your music, other than yourself?Normal everyday changes influences my music even if it’s just the weather outside or seeing someone from my past.

It’s interesting that small things can influence musicians so easily, does this mean that you write everyday?I’d say on average I write for about two hours a day, mostly poetry but a lot of it isn’t very good at all so it gets thrown away.

So, which musicians would you say influence you the most?That’s hard; I’d probably have to say Sage Francis and Eyedea as we write about similar things.
