Who we are?en•act•usA community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world.

entrepreneurial—having the perspective to see an opportunity and the talent to create value from that opportunity;

action—the willingness to do something and the commitment to see it through even when the outcome is not guaranteed;

us—a collection of people who see themselves connected in some important way; individuals that are part of a greater whole.

Where we work?

How Enactus Works Enactus helps students establish teams on university campuses

and provides the teams with training and guidance

Enactus students apply business concepts to develop community outreach projects that empower people in need to live better lives

Faculty advisors and a local business advisory board provide direction and mentoring for each student team

Students present their projects in annual competitions which are judged by business executives – the winning national team participates in an international competition

Project Examples

The Minimbah projects are about working ‘with’ our local Aboriginalcommunity to empower them to take small steps to overcome the barrierswhich are contributing to their economic and social disadvantage. In 2012 the focus has been on legal identity. Without a legal identity our indigenous people are unable to take on many of the roles and activities which to the rest of us are a normal part of Australian life.

This year 120 Aboriginal and refugee students at the Minimbah Indigenous Pre and Primary School in Armidale took part in a” Birth Certificate Access Event” in collaboration with 3 government agencies;2 non-profits and 2 private enterprises

As a result, 95 Aboriginal children were provided with their very first birth certificate.This means that these 95 Aboriginal children can now participate in sporting teams; access financial services; acquire a driver’s license; and travel overseas.

Project Examples

ReSHOE diverts used shoes from Australian landfill, and provides employment and business opportunities to disabled Australians, while at the same time assisting low income people in Senegal.30 million shoes end up in Australian landfill each year. Over 740 million people in developing countries are infected by diseases due to lack of footwear, and 54% of Senegalese people live below the poverty line.The UWA enactus team addressed the local and international challenge by distributing education materialson recycling and shoe collection to 15 participating primary schools with more signing up for the secondround of collection..Only 54% of disabled Australians participate in the workforce.The shoes are collected and disabled Australians have been employed to sort shoes, which in turn areshipped to the Senegalese people to start their own micro-enterprise to sell the shoes. Any shoes that arenot fit for resale are sent to Nike Grind and are used for sportsgrounds such as tennis courts.The reshoe project provides education for students on the importance of recycling and waste management:reduces social isolation experienced by people with disabilities, and provides them with gainful employment.
