THE GREENPOINT GROWERY:
A PRODUCTIVE GARDENThis design-build project transforms the unoccupied
rooftop of a mixed-use building located in a light
manufacturing district in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The sites
existing community, grounded in the artists studios and
gallery, supports the programatic functions of the roof:
edible and medicinal plants garden, stage, and gathering space.

This proposal for Kenmore Square integrates a transportation
node, a park, and a cultural center in an intersection of public
interests. The design enlists a wrapping gesture to determine

HAVANA SERIESPhotography: On Location in Havana, 2012
35 mm film, black & white
In the spring of 2012 I spent three months studying documentary photography in Havana, Cuba. The images here are taken from a larger series.
There is a persistent illusion of Cuba that believes the country froze when the Revolution came to power and nothing there has progressed since. The
truth is Cuban society is innovative, progressive, and dynamicits intellectual and physical landscapes are very different from the way they were in 1959. I
believe that my task as a photographer is not to reminisce but to capture the moments that I experience.Undoubtedly one of the most significant contemporary transformations in Cuba is the appearance of newly legalized small businessestypically vendors
set up on porches, in front yards, and in residential doorways. Foreigners who visit Cuba for the first time may not realize how recent these ventures are, but it
has been less than two years that they have been allowed by the government. Many of the shops in my photos were only weeks or months old at the time of
my encounter with them.
