Welcome Kindergarten & Year 7
commenced last year and will be publicly available at the end of Term 1, 2015. As a reminder for all families, if any enrolment or contact details have changed over the break, can you please advise the school as soon as possible. This includes changes to mobile phone numbers and family members that are required as emergency contacts. It is a requirement for enrolment in all DEC schools to have the most current informa on provided to the school. In the instances of students having medical condi ons, the school must be consulted, with health care professionals, to develop health care plans for every student. This informa on is confiden al and will be communicated to staff appropriately so that student safety is maintained.
As men oned this term is going to be busy, and we start with our K ‐ 12 Swimming Carnival this Friday. The school will also be holding its annual Autumn Fair on the 28th of March, on the morning of the NSW Elec ons being held at the school. The Autumn Fair is a major fundraiser for the school and provides the school the capacity to offer so many more opportuni es to our students. This Tuesday night is the first P&C mee ng for the year and all parents and carers are invited to a end and support the school.
Principal’s news with Mr Brendan Maher
Welcome back to students, parents and staff to another exci ng and busy year at Coolah Central School. I want to welcome our new families and students to our school community and hope they enjoy their learning at our great school. I want to welcome Mrs Sandra Sievers to our school as our new Secondary Mathema cs teacher replacing Mr Chris Dungate. Chris Dungate re red last week a er more than 15 years at Coolah Central School. He has been a posi ve and successful school leader as Principal of Coolah Central School and con nued his passion of teaching mathema cs un l his re rement. I want to publicly thank Chris for his services to Coolah Central School and to public educa on in NSW throughout his career. Sandra Sievers brings a wide variety of experiences and skills to the school and she will also be teaching the Year 6 Mathema cs course, as part of our high school transi on program and also to extend our students in numeracy.
At the end of 2014, I had to make the decision to reduce the number of classes in Primary and Infants to 5, based on the number of enrolments in our Primary and Infants areas. Although we are close to regaining the sixth class back, I am con nuing to develop our curriculum around the 5 classes. A er discussion with parents and staff, I want to clarify that the student alloca ons in classes is not in any way based on student ability or results. The classes have been developed primarily to have similar numbers of students across all three Primary classes. This year we will s ll maintain our Numeracy program, where classes will be taught based on their enrolled year, leading to smaller more specialized numeracy classes K ‐ 6. If we do have further enrolments then the development of the classes will be reviewed accordingly. At Coolah Central School we offer a broad and rigorous curriculum to challenge and engage students. In the coming months, as part of the School Planning process, I will seeking input from the community as to other pathways the school can offer, such as adult learning courses in VET or other HSC subjects. The school planning process

Deputy Principal - Mr Mick McLeod Welcome back to another year of productive work and success at Coolah Central School. A special welcome to all our new students to CCS, in Kindy and the new additions across the board from Year 1 to Year 12. I feel sure 2015 will bring with it many new and exciting opportunities, a few challenges and much success. I trust you all had a great Christmas Break and come to this year fresh and excited about the Year ahead. We live in a world which has many challenges. There are situations beyond our influence, and sometimes beyond our understanding. What we need to focus on as Students, Parents and Staff is making sure we concentrate on those things we have some control over. The day to day way we go about our lives and work is fundamental to our a success or lack of it. By taking on the personal challenges and giving them our best shot, we are setting ourselves up for success, and making the community we live in healthier and more vibrant. If we do that well enough then we also give society in general the best chance of improving the lives and wellbeing of everyone. Have a great year; make sure your efforts and attitude are positive and that your focus is on doing the best that you can.

Mrs Simmons
A very warm welcome goes to all of the students in K/1. We have 11 Kindies and 9
Year 1 students. A warm welcome goes to all our new families. I am really looking forward to a busy fun-filled and productive year ahead with K/1. Each week we will have two class captains and this week our captains will be Ebony and Ryan. Every student will have turn at being captain. A huge thankyou to all Kindy parents for bringing your children in for the Best Start testing. All of the students tried very hard and I was very proud of them. Feedback will be sent home soon. Homework will commence this week for Year 1 and next week for Kindy. Year 1 students will need to complete Unit 1 only and they will also need to write out their spelling words each night as well as practise their reading. What’s on this week? Wednesday - Library. All students will need to bring in a waterproof Library bag please.
Friday - Swimming Carnival. All Kinder and Year 1 students will need to come to school first as we will walk down to the pool at about 10.15am. Students may wear their swimmers to school under their sports uniform or clothes which are their house colours. The will need to bring sunscreen, rash shirt/sun shirt, towel, hat, food for recess and lunch (unless they are buying it from the pool canteen) and a big drink of water. All parents and friends are very welcome to attend. Depending on the weather, we may return to school in time for the buses or we may stay at the pool. We will let you know on Thursday. An information sheet has been sent home today. Please ask if you have any queries. Each day we will be having “sip and crunch”, so the students will need a drink of water and some fruit please. It would be great if the fruit is already peeled and/or cut up please. The students’ book packs can be paid for when it is convenient to you . All of the equipment and the books your child needs as been included in these packs.
