This week was a short school week due to the
Queen’s birthday long weekend. I hope
everyone was able to rest up and recharge,
ready for the last weeks of Term 2.
Congratulations to the Ungarie
Magpies Football Club who
celebrated their centenary over
the weekend. I’m sure it was
great to catch up with friends and past team
mates.
Congratulations to Kai Davies who was
selected in the NSW CHS Under 15’s AFL side.
Kai obviously displayed great
talent at the Secondary State
AFL carnival in Albury to be
selected in the team. Kai will
play at the School Sport
Australia AFL Championships
in Maroochydore in July. What an outstanding
effort!
Next week we have three students attending
the Riverina Rock Camp at Borambola.
Jackson Benness, Kadee Gerhard-Scali and
Angus Williams will arrive at the camp on
Sunday. After a week of music and fun they
will perform in a music concert on Thursday.
We look forward to hearing them play when
they return.
Today we had a visit from Brett Angel, the
Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO), to check
our student attendance. This is a timely
reminder for parents about the policy for
attendance and absences. Education for your
child is important and regular attendance at
school is essential for them to achieve their
educational best. We
understand that there are
times when students may
need to be absent. Parents
are required to provide an explanation for
absences to the school within 7 days from the
first day of any period of absence. Parents can
contact the school by telephone, written note
or email. Where an explanation has not been
received within the 7-day timeframe, the
Department will record the absence as
unjustified on your child's record.
Yesterday the Years 9-12 students attended the
Condobolin Careers Expo. There were many
career opportunities on display and we hope
the students were able to learn about some of
the options out there for them.
Finally, well done to our primary students who
represented Lower Lachlan at the Western
Cross Country in Geurie yesterday.
Until next week!

photos and results next week.
Jack Crofts, Ashton Ross, Hugh Williams and Harry Roscarel travelled to Nelson Bay to participate in the PSSA State AFL
Carnival from 24th -26th of May. When they arrived on the Monday afternoon, the boys had a training run (to run the
stiffness out of their legs after eight hours in a car), get a ‘feel’ for the ground and receive the last parts of their uniform.
First thing Tuesday morning team photos were taken - and what a good looking bunch they were! Their first game was
against Hunter and very exciting it was too. At half time the boys were leading and playing really well. Unfortunately
Hunter came back all guns blazing in the second half to take the match out. It was a close game and the boys acquitted
themselves well. The next three games over Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday were hard fought, but the Western side
went down to older and more experienced teams. Even though the scores do not shown it there were some really good
quarters of football played where Western contained the other sides to only a few goals.
On the last day Western played off against Hunter for the 12th and 13th place. This was a rematch of their first game and
once again they acquitted themselves well. There were some very good passages of play, which unfortunately they
couldn’t quite finish off. The boys had a strong last quarter, kicking three goals. I think if there had been one more quarter
they may have managed to get up for a win. Considering the fact that the Western side consisted of boys from Years 4-6,
and the whole side came from schools with a combined total of less than 800 students they did very well. It was a great
experience for all of them. Thank you to Michelle Roscarel for this write up.

NSW PSSA BASKETBALL IN TAMWORTH
Ella McRae and Tess Henley recently enjoyed the honour of participating in the
NSW PSSA Girls Basketball Carnival on the 24th - 26th May 2016. The carnival
took place at the Tamworth Sports Dome, which is an exceptional indoor
sports facility with 4 basketball courts and 2 training courts.
Ella and Tess represented Western Region with three other students from
West Wyalong Primary School and other team members from Dubbo,
Gilgandra and Bathurst.
Western played some strong teams including Sydney South West, North Coast,
Sydney North, Hunter and Riverina Regions without a win but managed to
draw with South Coast. They won the final game they played at the carnival
against Barrier Region. The team was
guided by their very experienced coach Jo Cafe from Bathurst. The Ungarie
and West Wyalong students shared a wonderful experience, learnt lots about
basketball and met some great friends along the way. Thank you to Justine
Henley for this write up.
