Energy Policy Act (EPACT) of 2005Tax Deductions Assignable to Designers
• EPA-2005 provides an Assignable Tax Deduction that can be “sold” to Designer for additional scope items or reduction in fees
• Designer defined as “architect, engineer, contractor, environmental consultant or energy services provider”
• Tax Deduction based upon energy savings and affected square footage up to $1.80/sf– $0.60/sf each for Lighting Systems, HVAC Systems and Building
Envelope
• Proposed Legislation increases credit to $1.00/sf/system

Building Energy AuditsProgress Energy/MAE Programs
• Energy Management Staff has performed Energy Audits to evaluate energy use and applicability to Progress Energy’s Energy Efficiency for Business Program
• Audits Performed on:– Flex Lab Building– Method Road Greenhouses– Materials Storage Warehouse
• Energy Management applied a no-cost ECM applied to manage Metal Halide lamp use saves >$1,600 per year
• Initial Cost and ROI to be determined based upon energy savings and PEC Rebates

Energy Efficiency Block Grant AwardUNC-GA/ State Energy Office/ ARRA Funds
• SEO and UNC-GA requested proposals from Constituent Universities for Energy Efficiency Projects– Threshold for savings is to reduce energy used by 15 million BTUs for
each $1,000 spent
• Facilities Division prioritized a list of four projects:– Campus-wide Lighting and Controls Retrofit– Retro Commissioning and Electrical Equipment at the Flex Lab
Building– Replace two 130 ton chillers at Research Building II
– NCSU has been awarded $778 k to complete the projects by Dec 2011.
