Exalted Ruler’s Message

As I write this letter we still have Elk members that are with-out power. Irma affected just about everyone. I talked to one man who said every day on the way home it was a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread and diapers. Now it is five gallons of gas too. There are people in the community that need help and that is what Elks do.

Bingo is temporarily closed so our primary source of income for charity is the event parking. On a busy night it takes about ten people to park effectively. I am making a request for volunteers if you can just help one show a month we can give some of the regulars a night off.

Because of slow summer sales the kitchen has been cut back to volunteers only. I have heard some suggestions the PERs want to cook a Friday night dinner. I wonder what they will surprise us with? The PERs are a fun group and work well together.

I am going to speak to the officers and I would like them to do a Friday dinner as well. I am not sure what we will make but I can do beans!

I am sure there are others that are handy in the kitchen and would like to wow us with their culinary expertise. All you need to do is reach out to me and we can make it happen.

My Elk of the month is Chris Lowe. Chris had his house heavily damaged during Mathew and before he could get it all put back together Irma came along and put him back to square one. Last week he was in the lot helping to park cars smiling and waving at everyone.

Chris is a good Elk he always has a smile, a kind word and a bit horseplay. Congratulation Chris.

John Gebert, Exalted Ruler

One of the main fundraisers as an Elks Lodge is Elks Na-

tional Foundation (ENF). The foundation supports both national and

state programs as well as providing special grants to Lodges for work in

our communities. Without the support of the local Lodges, ENF would

not have the impact it does from local Lodges to state and national pro-

grams. From time to time I discuss those programs in the ENF Corner

articles.

This month I would like to list the 35 Lodge members who have been

recognized by Grand Lodge as Second-Year Donors and awarded the

Great Heart Elk Pin. For those who are recognized below and attending

the next Lodge meeting, I will be awarding the Great Heart Elk Pin.

The members recognized are:

Wayne S Barbour, Peter Beckwith Sr., Frank Benischeck, Gloria

Benischeck, Arthur E Borde, Edward S Bowman, James Bristle, Allen

Cole, Sarah Dousman, John Dunkle, Alisa M Eason, Nicole Ehart,

Gerard M Gerling, David A Grace, Donald R Gray, Thomas Heggie,

Gerald Hunt, Sam Kinsey, Barry Master, Ruthie McDaniel, Sarah

McDavitt, Vincent Newberry, Daniel J Nootens, Ed Paucek, Michael L

Rathmann, Pamela Ruiz, Peggy Shope, A Joseph Smith, Jr., Barbara

Smith, Joseph Smith Sr., M Denise Smith, Joann Stoval, Harry Wal-

dron, Jeffrey West, and Patrick Whelan.

Congratulations to the above individuals for being recipients of the

Great Heart Elk Pin and thank you for contributing to the success of

Elks National Foundation programs. You are truly the examples of Elks

Care – Elks Share!

NOTE: Since 2015, a portion of the $100 you paid for each 10K Super-nite ticket went as a donation to ENF in your name. For 2016, the con-tribution to ENF in your name was $23.80 per ticket.

Eland News

Has September already passed??? Welcome to October!

Good bye and good riddance to Hurricane Irma. I hope that

everyone is either back to normal, almost normal, or making progress

toward normal, whatever “normal” may be.

As we move forward, please remember that Saturday, November

18th is the date for the Sock Hop. Our special entertainment group re-

mains Avenue D. For those who don't think you know them, they are the

lodge members Tom Landers, Judy Patrick and Ken Dellmire. They are

absolutely amazing!!! The music will “knock you socks off”. Avenue D

sings songs that you will love to dance to, and some that will possibly

bring back great memories. The lodge will be decorated in the theme of

a 1950's malt shop. Light snacks will be on the tables, and one or two

food trucks will be scheduled to be outside the back doors. You can or-

der and pay for the food you want, then bring it into the lodge/malt shop

to enjoy. The Elks will have a cash bar open in the hall as well. Tickets are

$10 each, and once again our terrific bar tenders will sell them at the bar.

They will go on sale in October.

I'll be in my poodle skirt and Mike will be in blue jeans and T-shirt.

You can join in the 50's or 60's dress style or wear your current every day

a<re. Hope to see everyone at this fun event. (Yes, this is almost what I

wrote in the August and September newsle>ers, but s?ll true.) Please

plan on joining us for a well needed night of fun!!!

If you are the spouse of an Elk, we are extending a special invita-

?on to join our Eland organiza?on. We would love to meet and answer

any ques?ons that you may have.

Our next Eland meeng will be Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:30 PM.

Hope to see you there.

WHEN: OCTOBER 14th, 2017

DANCE LESSONS ARE BACK!!!!

Dance lessons at the Lodge will resume on Monday evenings at 7:30pm in the rear Hall. The lesson is followed by open dancing un-til 9:00pm. No partner is required. Guests are also welcome, subject to the rules of the Lodge. We are currently teaching the Cha-Cha, but will also provide pointers on any dance.

As we age, studies show that dancing may be the best form of exer-cise. Dancing not only uses body muscles, but is a strong exercise for mental coordination and “muscle memory.” So, get up off the couch and start practicing for your 100th Birthday Dance!

Be a Ready Rider and Help our Lodge Get It Done!

In the Old West, a posse was made up of Very Busy citizens who sometimes

were able to get away from the daily challenges of survival to assist in a neces-

sary community objective. The ELKS Ready Riders are busy living their lives

but are willing to be approached when certain activities are in need of assistance.

The Ready Riders are asked to check activities of interest such as decorating for

parities, assisting food services, etc.

Elks Ready Riders are never obligated to assist if contacted. By filling out the

form you are only stating an interest and May Be Contacted to find out more

about how you are looking to volunteer and be part of the Ready Riders!

Preference chart is listed below; add any special talents to the “other” box.

Check your areas of interest:
