First, our annual Christmas dinner for our Yountville veterans was a great success. We provided dinner and a gift for approximately 90 veterans. I want to thank Jerry Wernli for leading this effort, Tom Bizal for cooking a great dinner and the nine other volunteers who served the dinner. Feedback from the veterans was totally positive and we enjoyed giving them a little holiday cheer. Another volunteer effort was picking our candidates for the Most Valuable Student Scholarship. Twenty-two high schools students applied through our lodge. Nancy Veilleux led our judging team of eight in picking three girls and three boys for submission to the District judging. These six students will also receive one-time scholarships from our lodge. Although this program is currently closed for this year, applications for ENF Legacy Grants can still be made through 12 noon Central time on January 29, 2016. Applicants must be a high school senior whose parent or grandparent was initiated before April 1, 2013 and are current on their dues through March 31, 2016. Have the student go to www.elks.org for complete information. When it comes to giving and volunteering, nothing speaks louder than the support shown for our “Head Start” families. We needed sponsors for 67 children and we had far more volunteers then we had children. When Cindy put up tags for food donations every tag was taken. On December 18 th a large group of volunteers gathered to assemble the food baskets. The total reward for these efforts was the look on the children’s faces when Santa gave them their gifts and those of the parents when they received the food baskets. Thanks to all who gave and supported this program. Speaking of support, I want to also thank the numerous members who support the lodge on a day-to-day basis. If you ever wondered who sets up the dining room for Tuesday and Friday nights, or for rentals and special events, you can thank a dedicated group of your fellow members. If you are interested in volunteering, call Elli Platz in the office. Remember you can still sign up for our New Year’s Eve party. Our theme is “New Years in Hawaii” and it will be a casual Hawaiian dress event. Tickets are going fast so call the office to make reservations. Finally, as we approach the end of the year, please remember that donations to both the Elks National Foundation (ENF) and the state Major Project (Purple Pig) are fully tax deductible. Bring your donations to the office by December 30 th and you can help the Elks help others. Again I want to give a big “THANK YOU” to all those who support the Elks and our lodge by volunteering From Rosie and myself we wish everyone a Safe and Happy New Year. FROM YOUR EXALTED RULER…….

As we all know, volunteering and giving are a big part of being an Elk. This past

month has been a great example of how we are doing our part.

On December 18th a large group of volunteers gathered to assemble the food baskets.

Bring your donations to the office by December 30th and you can help the Elks help others.

Again I want to give a big “THANK YOU” to all those who support the Elks and our lodge by volunteering

From Rosie and myself we wish everyone a Safe and Happy New Year.

Chili's Grill & Bar restaurants throughout California will host a Give Back Event to help raise money for the California Hawaii Elks Association Major Project. Elks Lodges reflect the makeup of their communities, as every community is different so is each Elks Lodge. The needs of the communities are what the local Lodges focus on. In 1950 the 172 Lodges in California and Hawaii banded together to create the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project (CHEMPI) with a goal of helping children that have fallen through the cracks. This unique program funds 28 paid therapists and preschool vision screeners, hired by CHEMPI, to help disabled children when no other organizations can or will. These CHEMPI professional therapists and vision screener’s travel, sometimes great distances, to help children get care they need. Further, many times the children will have tests, e.g. Vision Screening, that catches early signs of amblyopia (“Lazy Eye”), a medical problem that, once caught, can be corrected early on and save a child from going blind. CHEMPI’s Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists, have a case load of 340 children while the Vision Screeners screened 43,830 preschool children and referred 2,266 of them to Doctors. Each year we strive to raise the $3,000,000.00 needed to fund this program. When asked the question “what are the Elks?” the best answer I can give is, we are your neighbors and we are working to make our neighborhood a better place for all of us to live. You do not have to be an Elk to participate in the event. This is an opportunity to bring awareness to your communities about this great organization by bringing everyone you know at work, church, school districts, next door, family, friends, and anyone else you can think of to eat at Chili's. Do not assume that just because you, your friends, your family and anyone else you referred to the event are automatically included in the event just by being at Chili's on January 25th. Make sure everyone knows to inform their server that they are there for the event either by giving the server the flyer (recommended), telling the server they are there for the event, or showing the server a picture of the flyer on your smart phones. If your server does not know you are there for the event, your meal will not be included.

The mission of ENF is to help Elks build stronger communities. We fulfill this pledge by investing in communities where Elks live and work. We provide tomorrow’s leaders, (our youth), with lifelong skills. Honor the Elks pledge to never forget our veterans. Help the state Elks associations accomplish their charitable obligations and fund programs that improve the quality of life in local Elk communities.

This year, the ENF allocated $9.77 million to fund Community Investments Programs, investing in Elks communities through grants for Elk Lodges. Our Lodge received a total of $7,000.00 in ENF Grants, which energized the membership, and gained the notice of people who want to be part of an organization that’s doing great things.
