Interest in quality of life issues in psychosocial oncology. Included is research measuring the grief reaction in a bereaved population. In addition is research measuring patients' self-care self-efficacy. Research focuses on health outcome variables: adjustment to illness, adherence to treatment, and psychological adjustment.

2007 Fall, 2007. Provided a research experience for the following doctoral students: Kathleen Boreale, Jennifer Bryer, and Marlene Dey. Students analyzed qualitative data posted in an on-line anonymous Internet community sponsored by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. “Qualitative Research Experience for Doctoral Students” was approved for exemption by Rutgers IRB [Protocol #E07-428].

1997 Spring, 1997, 3 credits, Conducting a therapy group with depressed women, Marilyn Gaesser, graduate student, student conducted a therapy group with depressed women from a battered women's shelter, focused on identification and treatment of depression, and wrote a paper describing the project.

1996 Spring, 1996, 3 credits, Short Term Psychotherapy. Eileen Powell, graduate student - attended selected classes on short term psychotherapy and prepared a paper analyzing a case study using principles of short term psychotherapy.

1996 Spring, 1996, 3 credits, Adjustment to HIV in preadolescent and adolescent clients, Louise Walpin, graduate student, reviewed literature dealing with the experience of preadoloscent and adolescents dealing with terminal illness, conducted therapy sessions with clients, and described the effects of HIV on the clients in a presentation to a graduate psychiatric nursing class.
