Teacher asks the students to list out festivals celebrated in Malaysia. e.g. Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas 2. Ask students whether any of them celebrate Christmas. 3. Teacher randomly chooses a few students and asks them how they celebrate Christmas. 5 minutes Pre-reading: 1. Introduce the topic of the day. 2. Get students to turn to page 13 and go over the glossary. 3. Get students to do Task 1. 4. Elicit answers. 10 minutes While- reading: 1. Ask students to read pages 9 - 12. 2. While reading ask students to underline some of the difficult words: exchange debt slashed appreciate favourite bargain 3. Teacher asks the students to guess the meanings based using contextual clues while reading. 10 minutes Post-reading: 1. In pairs, get the students to do Task 2. 2. Do peer checking and discuss answers. 3. Distribute Task 3. 4. Ask students to complete Task 3 as individual work. 5. Elicit answers from the students. 6. Get students to do the Reading Comprehension exercise activity from the magazine as Task 4 (pg-13) and to answer in their exercise books. 7. Teacher discusses the answers as a whole class activity. 12 minutes Wrap: 1. Homework- Get students to do puzzle activity on page 59. Alternatively, they could photocopy page and do it. 3 minutes
