April’s Successful Learning Trait: Curiosity
“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for being curious,
so do it with enthusiasm!”
~Dorothy Parker
I’d like to recognize and thank our EOES families and staff who did a
magnificent job of showing their respect and compassion for the Bronco
Humboldt Hockey Team by wearing a team shirt yesterday. A simple
gesture by our school which contained so much compassion and heartfelt
sympathy for those affected by the tragic accident in Saskatchewan. I think
that when we offer opportunities for our children to demonstrate
compassion and caring we teach our children that others are not alone, we too
feel their pain and loss. It also helps us teach our children that we are a strong
and committed community who support our fellow Canadians through difficult
times, they are not alone! Thank you Oceanside families, you are definitely
committed and caring and your efforts were noticed and
appreciated!
We have so much learning happening in our classrooms. It is so wonderful to
see our students actively engaged in their learning. I know that parents will be
impressed when they come to our Parent Teacher Conferences and see and
hear about the growth in their child’s learning. In our Intermediate
classes, students are designing bridges, learning how to code their own
programs, looking at global issues, writing oral speeches about topics that are
important to our students and oh so many new curricular concepts. Our
Kindergarten students have started with a series of field trips so their learning
about their community and the ecosystems that we are fortunate to have can
be explored and appreciated. Similarly our Primary classes are learning many
new and interesting Science facts about Bees, Butterflies and useful Insects
and why it is important to provide safe environments so they don’t
disappear. Our WE club is also continuing on with their global goal and
establishing some up and coming events. We will also be sending 12 Grade 5
and 6 students in a couple of weeks to a Leadership convention so that they
can learn and share some of the skills they can put to good use in our school.
Finally, Track and Field practices will be starting soon. This year the Track and
Field Meet will once again be at Ballenas High School for Grades 4-7. More
information will be shared in next week’s newsletter.

S H OR T T ERM H OS T F A MIL IES N EEDED KSS has a fund raising opportunity that can earn families $240 over a four day
period while at the same time connecting our globally minded students with like
minded students in Japan. Kwalikum Secondary School's Japanese sister school is
coming in May and we are looking for host families. 40 students from Aichi Keisei
High School will be visiting Qualicum Beach from Wednesday evening, May 16
until Sunday morning, May 20. KSS is looking for several families to open their
homes for a cultural sharing experience for 16 and 17-year-old Japanese boys and
girls. The host families do not need to have children attending an SD69 school. An
honorarium of $30 per student per night is paid to the host family for the 4 night
stay. If you are interested in hosting please contact Brad Wilson
at [email protected] or call at 250- 240-3328.

One benefit of using your
newsletter as a promotional
tool is that you can reuse
content from other marketing
materials, such as press re-
leases, market studies, and
reports.
While your main goal of dis-
tributing a newsletter might
be to sell your product or ser-
vice, the key to a successful
newsletter is making it useful
to your readers.
A great way to add useful
content to your newsletter is
to develop and write your own
articles, or include a calendar
of upcoming events or a spe-
cial offer that promotes a new
product.
You can also research articles
or find “filler” articles by ac-
cessing the World Wide Web.
You can write about a variety
of topics but try to keep your
articles short.
Much of the content you put

used for your Web site. Mi-

simple way to convert your

caption of the image near the

Selecting pictures or graphics
is an important part of adding

Think about your article and
ask yourself if the picture
supports or enhances the
message you’re trying to con-
vey. Avoid selecting images
that appear to be out of con-
text.
