SRC News... Out of Uniform Day This Thursday 28 February will be an “out of uniform” day to raise money for poverty stricken communities in West Timor. Amelia T (5M) and her family are involved in a Compassion partnership with 3 communities in West Timor. The unemployment rate is high and roughly 30% of the population live below the poverty line. Through the partnership they have seen a water tower and a library built. They will continue to meet with key community leaders to encourage and support them as they endeavour to lift their people out of poverty. Please help support Amelia with a gold coin donation on Thursday. Miss Cashmere SRC Coordinator

Student/Class News...

First Edition Goes Live! Last Wednesday, 3/4E published its first edition for 2013 of the class Newsletter “3/4 Extra Excellent”!

To view it, go here: http://eleebana34e2012.wordpress.com/ or: http://www.eleebana-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/years/year-3

The work that goes into this website is considerable. Every student in 3/4E get the opportunity to be an online journalist, with a new editing team of about 8 students working together to publish a new edition every 2 weeks. Their jobs include reviewing all news, sport, art and other story contributions from students in 3/4E. They select the best material and design the look and feel of the website. The website goes live every second Wednesday.

If you go to our website, feel free to comment on some of the posts in the comment box. The comments need to be approved by the team so you won’t see your comments immediately. Once they are approved you will be able to see what all our readers think of the website.

Just like any publication, there is always the possibility that there will be some typos. You will have to bear with us as we get better at it. We are very aware that spelling, punctuation and vocabulary are important and that’s why we are working together on this authentic, engaging project.

We are very lucky to have the support and guidance of an expert in his field, our own resident online journalist, Mr Celery. He comes to our class every Tuesday to work with the editing teams. Thank you Mr Celery! You are fabulous! Mrs Debbie Evans Class 3/4E Teacher/Assistant Principal

Library News... Congratulations to Elliot S (KS), Annabella T (1S), Josh S (1/2P), Nicholas D (3J), Olivia I (3/4E) and Chelsea C (4T) who have now completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Elliot is the first Kindergarten student to complete, reading with his big brother and his Mum and Dad - great effort.

This Semester, Library lessons will continue to develop Information skills with our focus animal being the Tasmanian Devil. One of our aims will be to raise enough funds to Adopt a Devil. If we can achieve this, a keeper will bring a Devil to the school from the Devil Ark Program, enhancing the students’ experience. The SRC will be holding fundraisers throughout Semester One which we hope will be well supported.

Those who read - succeed

School Watch... School Watch is a volunteer program that greatly assists our school. The volunteers take a walk through the school grounds at varying hours checking the windows, doors and looking for trespassers. If a volunteer sights anything they are NOT to approach them, but to ring the school watch number (1300 880 221) and let security and/or the police handle the situation from there. So if you are interested in further assisting our great school community, let the school know.

OOSH News... The next general parent committee meeting will be held this Tuesday 26 February at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and reminded that it is a requirement of your membership to the service that someone from each family attends at least one meeting per year. Eleebana OOSH is operated by a volunteer parent committee and we cannot operate without the continued support of ALL the parents that use the centre.

A reminder to children to bring in your favourite recipe from home so we can create an OOSH kids cook book and we will challenge ourselves to cook as many of these recipes as we can throughout the year. We will be starting this next week.

For enquiries or information please phone Carolyn or Kate on 4942 8186 or call in between 7-9am or 2.30-3pm, NOT at 3pm, which is our busiest time of the day.
