The Nature of Magnetism

This is the name of the mineral that magnetic rock

contains.

This is the region of magnetic force around a magnet.

This is a cluster of billions of atoms whose magnetic fields are lined up the same way.

This is a magnet made of material that keeps its

magnetism.

This is a material that show strong magnetic effects.

This is the smallest particle of an element that has the

properties of the element.

Magnetic Earth

This is a device with a magnetized needle that can

spin freely.

The poles of a magnetized needle on a compass align

themselves with this.

This is located near, but not exactly at the geographic

north pole.

This is a stream of highly charged particles flowing at high speeds from the sun.

This is a glowing region in the atmosphere caused by

charged particles from the sun.

This changes direction about every 100,000 years.

Electric Charge and Static Electricity

When a negatively charged object and a positively

charged object are brought close together they do this.

This is the field around an electrically charged object

which exerts a force on other charged objects.

This is an object in which each positive charge is balanced by a negative

charge.

This is movement of electrons from one charged object to another charged object by

direct contact.

This is the law which states that no charges are created or

destroyed.

This is the loss of static electricity as electric charges

move off an object.

Electrical Safety

This is a connection which allows electricity to follow an

unintended path.

This is the coating on copper wire which prevents people

from getting a shock as current runs through the wire.

The third prong of a plug connects the metal shell of an

appliance to this.

This is a metal rod mounted on the roof of a building which

protects the building.

This device is added to a circuit to prevent overheating.

These control the beating of your heart.

Electricity, Magnetism, and Motion

This is the ability to move an object some distance.

When a current-carrying wire is placed into this, electrical

energy is converted to mechanical energy.

This is a device which uses an electromagnet to measure

small amounts of current.

This is a device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy and then uses the mechanical energy

to turn an axle.

This device reverses the flow of current through an electric

motor.

This is the name for the arrangement of wires

wrapped around an iron core in an electric motor.

Generating Electric Current

This is the process of generating an electrical

current by moving a conductor through a magnetic field.

This is a current which consists of charges that move

back and forth in a circuit.

This is a device which converts mechanical energy

into electrical energy.

This is a circular device made up of many blades that are

turned by wind, tide, steam, or water.

This is a type of energy resource which results in no

waste.

This is an energy resource that exists in a fixed amount.
