What is Electricity?

• Electricity is a type of power.• It is caused by electrons jumping from one

atom to the next around a circuit.• A circuit is a pathway that electricity flows

around. It needs to make a closed loop for the electricity to flow. If it doesn’t make a closed loop the electrons won’t jump from atom to atom.

How does electricity get to our houses?

In New Zealand the electricity is mostly made by hydro power stations. Some comes from windmills too. We don’t have any nuclear power stations in New Zealand.
