Here are three websites that are useful The Society of Egg Tempera Painters www.eggtempera.com is a wonderful resource for information of all kinds. Pigments Through The Ages www.webexhibits.org/pigments is a website that explains the origins and chemical components of most pigments you would want to know about. Very interesting! Iconofile is an interesting website that specializes in Icons and their production, but you will find supplies, information and interesting things pertaining to Egg Tempera. Carries Rublev pigments which are very nice pigments. SUPPLIES GESSO PANELS I buy my panels from True Gesso Corp., www.truegesso.com. Santa Fe, NM Phone: 315 - 256 - 8639 There are not many companies making panels these days. I tried to make my own panels and it is tedious and difficult work. It is much easier to buy panels! This company has been excellent to work with and they have exactly what I want. You can also use Ampersand Claybord panels which are somewhat different to use than the traditional gesso panels listed above, but they are widely available from most art suppliers and will cost significantly less money. My silverpoint tool does not work on Claybord! PIGMENTS I have tried pigments from the following suppliers: Sinopia Sinopia has high quality pigments in small quantities. www.sinopia.com Kremer Pigments Kremer has a retail store in the Chelsea district of New York City. There is a printed catalog and an extensive website from the German parent organization. A wealth of information is here. Dont be put off ordering in Euros...I have had good experiences with this company and you can easily find a Euro to Dollar conver- sion online. http://kremer-pigmente.de/en Guerra Paint and Pigments Sells dispersions in small plastic bottles. Also has dry pigments and metallics. Has a printed catalog and website. www.guerrapaint.com Kama Pigments French Canadian company with French and English website. I particularly like their boxed set of 15ml dispersions, but they sell all sorts of interesting items for painting. www.kamapigments.com The Earth Pigments Company This company sells pigments that come from the Société des Ocres de France”, the last remaining ocher quarry in Provence. They carry mineral pigments, natu- ral ochers, and a variety of oxide pigments. All are very exciting! www.earthpigments.com Natural Pigments This website has an incredible number of articles and features about paint making, pigments, old masters techniques, and so on. It is really worth investigating even if you dont want to buy anything here, but their products are all top quality. Try their Rublev line of dispersions. www.naturalpigments.com/ Koo Schadler http://kooschadler.com/egg-tempera-store.htm Koo has a kit for people who are starting out and this looks to me like a winner. For $125 you get everything you need to start painting! OTHER STUFF You really only need a few other items to complete your Egg Tempera outfit. Many things can be improvised.
