May 4 — Mother Nature Stroll: Join a Naturalist for an afternoon walk in the Nature Area. Discover what many of nature’s moms are up to this time of year!

May 5 — *PAID* Introduction to iNaturalist: Have you ever been walking around and noticed a plant or animal and wondered what it was? There is a phone app called iNaturalist that can help you identify these organisms. Join a Naturalist in a crash course in understanding an awesome new science tool that is changing the face of citizen science. Don’t forget to bring your smart phone!

May 11 — Plants with a Purpose: Join us for a guided plant walk! Learn how to identify many common plants while discovering their traditional uses.

May 12 — *PAID* Decoding Coyotes: Join a Naturalist for an in-depth look into the world of Coyotes. These are truly amazing creatures that are thriving on the edge of human society. Get a closer look into their behavior, prey, habitats and so much more. Come get a better understanding of these clever predators!

May 18 — Birding for Families: Bring the family out for a birding and nature walk led by a Naturalist and our special guest guides from the Sacramento Audubon Society. Birdwatchers of all levels welcomed. Make sure to bring your binoculars, or we can loan you a pair!

May 19 — *PAID* Butterflies in the Sky: Butterflies have captivated people’s imaginations for generations. They are important pollinators and are a food source to predators like birds, spiders, lizards and other animals. Sadly, many butterflies species are in decline. Come meet our guest speaker Krystin Doizer and learn about the spectacular insects and what we can do to help them!

May 25 — *PAID* Effie Yeaw Origami: Art and nature go hand in hand. Nature inspires us to wonder and create. Origami, the art of paper folding, is a really cool and innovative way to express yourself. Come to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center and create some of our local animals out of a simple piece of paper. You will be amazed at what a few simple folds can do!

May 26 — Critter Corner: Have you ever wondered where our animals come from and why they are here? Come eye to eye with a few of our resident animals, hear their story and learn about what makes them unique!
