What is PCP (Phencyclidine)?

PCP is classified as a hallucinogen, stimulant, depressant and an anesthetic – at the same time.

It is a white crystalline powder, but comes in tablet and liquid forms.

It is either ingested orally or smoked by applying it to forms of cigarettes.

It has many of the same side effects as LSD, but can be more dangerous.

Back in the 50’s, PCP was used as an anesthetic, but its severe side effects had its use discontinued.

Psychological and Physiological Dependence

• Psychological dependence is a dependency of the mind and leads to withdrawal symptoms such as cravings, irritability, insomnia, anorexia, et cetera. This is caused when the use of a long-term drug is stopped.

• Physiological dependence results from use of a drug that has produced tolerance where symptoms of negative withdrawal result from abrupt discontinuation or a reduction in dosage. It can develop low-dose therapeutic use of certain medications.

• Tolerance is when you ingest something so many times that the drug no longer has the same effect on you.

• Addiction is an obsession, compulsion where the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops physiological dependence.

M Y T H SPCP is said to cause superhuman strength, such

that 10 strong, trained policemen are needed to control an unarmed, untrained user. This myth was promoted by the move “The Terminator” because Schwarzenegger’s character had superior strength and was able to punch trough a pane of reinforced glass without feeling any pain.

TV show CSI also claimed that PCP could cause cannibalism, inspired by the real case of Antron Singleton, who attempted to eat an acquaintance’s lung.

Another PCP myth is that it is synthesized from embalming fluid, but has no relation to said fluid.

A horror story says that people have gouged out their on eyes while on the drug.

There is said that a couple bit their own tongues off an ate them while on PCP, but the story varies.
