UNDERNUTRITION• Also know as malnutrition, is a general term for a
medical condition caused by an improper or inadequate diet and nutrition.• According to the World Health Organization, hunger
and malnutrition are the single gravest threats to the world’s public health and malnutrition is by far the biggest contributor to child mortality.
EFFECTS ON INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT
• Mother suffers from undernutrition during pregnancy, baby can suffer from reduced intellectual capacity and cognitive functioning.• Chronic malnutrition (ages 2-3) can impair mental
development directly and indirectly.
CHILD DEATHS
• A key issue is the importance of undernutrition as an underlying cause of child deaths associated with infectious diseases, the effects of multiple concurrent illnesses, and recognition of pneumonia and diarrhea remain the diseases that are most often associated with child deaths.
EFFECT ON MALNUTRITION IN THE WORLD
• Any country's development depended on public health of the country.• If there is hunger or malnutrition in a country then the
growth rate of that country decreases.• So that the economic condition of that country also
affects.
CONCLUSIONS• These interventions were intended to affect maternal and
child undernutrition and nutrition related outcomes.• Intervention included Promotion of breastfeedingComplementary feedingMicronutrient interventionsStrategies to improve of disease burden
