Four Uses For Exit TicketsRobert Marzano (2012) shares four uses for exit tickets.

Students: 1.) Rate their current understanding of new learning.2.) Analyze and reflect on their efforts around the learning.3.) Provide feedback to teachers on an instructional strategy.4.) Provide feedback about the materials and teaching.

PROS OF USING TICKETS

• Checks for student understanding• Guides teacher instruction• Holds students accountable• Keeps students engaged• Allows students to self-assess• Clarifies the main concept of the lesson for students• Allows students to ask questions in a non-threatening way• Assists in organizing small groups based on needReference: Upper Elementary Snapshots. (2015). Eight reasons to use exit tickets in your classroom. Retrieved August 30, 2015 from http://www.upperelementarysnapshots.com/2014/11/eight-reasons-to-use-exit-tickets-in.html#.VeN6VPlViko

CONS OF USING TICKETS•If used by teachers as “morning work” to keep students busy while taking attendance (not the intended purpose of using tickets)•If not linked to course standards and lesson objectives then there is no educational value •Can be time consuming for teachers if not used correctly•Not environmentally “green” if using paper tickets. May want to consider an electronic method of using the tickets or recycling tickets when done with them
