Education Policy and Evaluation The specialization in Education Policy and Evaluation prepares individuals for policy-related careers that involve designing, developing, implementing, analyzing and evaluating federal, state and local educational policies, as well as preparing students to teach at the university level. It incorporates a core of policy and evaluation courses with courses in the humanities, social sciences, and basic research methods. At the doctoral level students are required to complete a strong core of courses in advanced research methods, in addition to policy and evaluation courses.

Sociocultural and international development education StudieS

(SideS)The mission of the SIDES specialization is to prepare students to assume leadership roles in international and multicultural education through:•the conduct of issue- or policy-oriented research and evaluation;•the design, implementation, and administration of educational change projects in varied settings; •the management of international and multicultural education programs of different types; •teaching related subject matter in colleges, universities, and adult education programs; and•providing consulting services to agencies, foundations, and governments in order to help improve decision-making and policy choices about international and multicultural education

Social, Historical and Philosophical Foundation of Education (SHPFE)

We offer a wide variety of coursework designed to acquaint students specializing in SHPFE with a broad understanding of sociological, historical and philosophical perspectives on educational policy and practice and to equip them

with the focused knowledge and skills necessary to conduct inquiry in the sociology of education, history of education, or philosophy of education. Students pursuing a degree in SHPFE are encouraged to use the constituent disciplinary perspectives to explore topics such as religion and education, cultural diversity, gender, and social justice, among others.

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND POLICY

The Program in Educational Leadership and Policy conducts cutting edge research and prepares future educational scholars and leaders to generate and creatively apply new knowledge about educational policy, government both domestically and internationally. To accomplish these goals program faculty:

•Employ-and prepare students to employ –a broad range of social science and humanities-based disciplinary perspectives and a variety of research methodologies in addressing critical questions of educational policy and leadership;

• Explore and demonstrate the infusion of policy concerns in all dimensions of educational practice and the relevance of international and multicultural perspectives to their understandings. • Develop the capacity of students to use the lasts and most relevant research, information and technical resources in leading educational institutions at all levels.

SPECIALIZATIONSEducational Leadership/ Administration

The specialization in Educational Leadership/Administration seeks to improve leadership for present and future schools, and for teaching and learning.  We value reflective, practice-oriented research and inquiry by faculty and students.  We promote the leadership qualities of honesty, dynamism, creativity, competence, challenge, and respect for diversity.  We value high-quality and action-oriented leadership and endorse a participatory and shared leadership style.
