    Lower School Grades 7-9 (Forms 1-3) Spanish and French as second languages.

    At Grade 9 they begin to take Biology, Chemistry and Physics

    individually. Upper School Grades 10-11 (Forms 4-5)

    Students are free to create their own curricula which mustinclude Math and English.

    They can choose from 6 to 10 subjects.

    Other subjects include: History, Geography, Agriculturalscience, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Spanish, French,Accounting, Principles of Business, Information Technology,Religious Education, Technical Drawing, Art, Theater Arts andabout 21 others.

    Is offered to students at grades seven toeleven, in the areas of craft, arts, agriculture,

    business, home economics and industrialarts.

    Is an optional, two years long, advanced postsecondary program, at the end of which

    students write the CAPE (CaribbeanAdvanced Proficiency Exams).

    Universities are typically the only degreegranting institutions. The main accreditation body is

    University Council of Jamaica.

    Although there have been significantadvances in education in Jamaica, the

    existing systems continue to face severeshort- comings. Underprivileged children in rural and poor

    urban areas particularly suffer from unequalaccess to quality education.

    The attendance rates are low which leads tounderachievement.
