Sri Lankans comprise India’s second largest community.

65000 inhabitants in 133 camps and 40000 outside camps.

Population is young and many have spent most of their lives in

exile.

On arrival most population were illiterate.

University of Madras offer free distance higher education in

undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Five self-financing engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu to

admit students under the management quota through TNEA.

Distance education program provided by the Open University

under DU , IGNOU etc

The government reserved 40 seats in engineering , 20 in

medicine, 10 in agriculture in colleges and 40 seats in

polytechnics for students.

Transferring fishing net manufacture skills from older

generation to young generation like you.

Tailoring training centres: the trained people meet the

needs of inhabitants and sell to local markets.

Gem-cutting teaching centre where a hundred youth

have learnt to cut and polish semiprecious stones;

some have set up their own businesses, while others have found private employment.

to help construct the Konkan railway.

Female income-generation projects making coir ropes

and brushes.

Almost all children attends school in India.

20,000 school-going children among Sri Lankan community.

There are currently 621 students among you in universities in

the state.

Education expenses assisted and the university students are

obliged to provide tuition to other students as well.

A large number of paramedics now serve fellow people and

also work in government primary health centres.

2,000 people now work in the construction industry.

NGOs have held exhibitions of clothing produced by people in

several states in order to promote sales.

Nagaraj, the son of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees A

Karuppaiah and Annakilli, who arrived in India from

Vavuniya in the early 1990s. Agaram Foundation

converting his real aspiration to become a doctor into

reality for him.

Ramanathan, who is now staying with his aged father

at the Trichy camp, works in a provision store. He is

now pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
