Back to the 80’s Lock-in Saturday, April 9, 2016

Are you ready for a blast from the past? Our Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) will be hosting a lock-in for both the Jr. and Sr. EYC groups. This will be open to all students 6th-12th grade, so please bring a friend! We will be stepping back into the 1980’s and having loads of fun. Entertainment will include movies, Video Games, TV shows, Cartoons, and a “salon” all set up with exclusively 1980’s content. Popular candies and food will be available from the decade as well. Parents are welcome to join us for a bit and experience a little nostalgia as well. Youth should bring a sleep-ing bag or blanket(s), pillow, change of clothes, toiletries needed for an overnight stay. We plan to attend the 10:30am church service on Sunday morning (casual attire is acceptable).

We are saddened by the death, March 6, of the Rev. L. P. Jones, husband of former Interim Rector Nancy Turner Jones. The Epiphany family extends our sympathy love, prayers and support to Pastor Nancy and family.

Our Front Desk Office Volunteers work from 10am-2pm Monday through Thursday, and 10am-1pm on Friday. We are a special group of dedicated ladies that enjoy being in our church office to meet and greet visitors, plus provide office support to Father Aaron and our office staff. MOTHER’S DAY ALTAR FLOWER DEDICATIONS

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8, and the Altar Guild is taking dedications for that Sunday’s bulletin.

This dedication is a beautiful way to remember those women who mean so much to us; wife, mother, grandmothers, sister, a favorite aunt, or a special friend.

A dedication form is on the counter in the church office. Each dedication is $5.00.

TRASH TO TREASURE SALE - MAY 21

The annual Trash to Treasure Sale will be held inside Sanderson Hall and the parking lot. We need your GOOD unwanted items so start your Spring cleaning now. Popular items are appliances, baby items and toys, electronics, furniture and household items, sports equipment and tools.

WE WILL NOT ACCEPT STAINED, TORN OR UNUSABLE CLOTHES.

Clothes must be in excellent condition with the size available. Electronics, lamps, fans or anything electrical must be in good working order. If you have items to donate, or would like to assist with the sale, please call Rusty in the church office, 256-582-4897.

WE WILL START ACCEPTING ITEMS MAY 13.

We also need workers to help set up on Thursday and Friday and to work the sale on Saturday, May 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You do not have to work all day. A couple of hours would be appreciated. There is a sign up sheet on the nave bulletin board.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia! It is a joy to welcome us all into the Easter season, when we celebrate the

Resurrection of Our Lord. Perhaps many of us think only of the actual “Sunday of the Resurrection” when we think of Easter. But Easter has a much fuller and richer mean-ing. Indeed, Easter is not just a single day, but an entire season of the church year. It stretches over a season called the Great Fifty Days which lasts until the Sunday of Pen-tecost.

Easter’s meaning extends even further than these calendar definitions. We

should always remember that Easter is more than a day or a season. Easter is a way of life. Life in the resurrection – the life we enjoy now as Christians – is powerful, transformational, and eternal.

Jesus gave us the definitive sign of new and transformed life in the fact of the

resurrection. He himself was the firstborn of the resurrection – a sign to us of God’s power, and a sign that nothing would separate us from God’s love. The power of sin and death was ultimately and decisively defeated in Jesus’ resurrection. And with that knowledge, we are invited into a new life. Life in the resurrection.

Life in the resurrection is powerful: what once seemed impossible, suddenly

becomes possible. What we once couldn’t conceive, suddenly becomes a reality. What was once shrouded in darkness, suddenly becomes revealed in the light.

Life in the resurrection is transformative. In other words, God changes us. In

an often difficult and dangerous world, God gives us the grace and forbearance to deal with whatever challenges we may face. We are given patience to rely on God’s time (kairos) and not on our own human time (chronos).

And life in the resurrection is eternal. Through Christ’s deliverance through

death and into the resurrection, we are given the blessed assurance that God is with us, and will always be with us. We are no longer bound by things temporal; we turn to that which is eternal.

I once saw a funny church sign that read “Church: Now Open Between Easter

and Christmas.” It was a humorous reminder that Christianity is not a club member-ship; it is not something we do every now and then, twice a year, or even just on Sun-days.

Indeed, the Easter way of life (or “Life in the Resurrection”) is the core of our

character. Jesus makes us who we are; he gives us our identity. We are God’s people: empowered, transformed, and loved – for all eternity. Thanks be to God! Yours in Christ, Fr. Aaron Holy Week, 2016

Vacation Bible School June 17th, 18th & 19th

You have heard the phrase “It takes a village...” well it takes many volunteers to conduct a fun and safe vacation bible school. VBS will be held on a weekend; Friday evening, Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Volunteers are needed prior to VBS to prepare materials and decorate, and volunteers are needed during VBS to lead and help with various activities and help the children with those activities. Healthy Thoughts: Physical Activity Provided by ERH Parish Health Ministry

“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” (3 John 1:2)

Why is Physical Activity Important? Regular physical activity can improve the health and quality of life of Americans of all ages, regardless of the presence of a chronic disease or disability. Among adults and older adults, physical activity can lower the risk of:

Early death Coronary heart disease Stroke

High Blood pressure Type 2 diabetes Breast and colon cancer Falls

Depression Among children and adolescents, physical activity can: Improve bone health Improve cardio-respiratory and muscular fitness Decrease levels of body fat Reduce symptoms of depression

How Much Physical Activity is needed? Children and adolescents, ages 6-17, should do 60 minutes

(1 hour) or more of physical activity each day. Adults need 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) of mod-

erate-intensity aerobic activity (i.e., brisk walking, dancing, etc.) every week.

Special Session Welcome Packs An important part of the ministry of Special Session at Camp McDowell is showing our campers hospitality. One way that we do that is by welcoming everyone to camp with a welcome pack. Epiphany is serving the Special Session ministry by collecting items to create 10 welcome packs. Every welcome pack includes: (please make all toiletries full sized) Toothbrush Toothpaste Shampoo Conditioner Deodorant Liquid Body Wash Wash Cloth Bug Spray Flashlight (with batteries) Sun Screen (SPF 30 or higher) Rain Poncho Water Bottle Prayer Letter Prayer letters are an opportunity to tell a Special Session camper they are loved and to wish them a happy week a camp. Names of campers are not available in advance so please write “Dear Camper.” Please consider donating an item or two. Please place items in the bins labeled “Special Session” located in the office and Sanderson Hall by April 29th. Additional items that Special Sessions can use are: Laundry detergent, arts and craft supplies (especially plastic gimp and beads), adult under wear (especially size XL-XXXL, men’s and women’s), adult socks, adult diapers and Walmart gift cards.
