For heart patients, movement is keyHeart patients are being advised to move around

every 20 minutes in a bid to prolong life following a studypresented at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress(CCC) 2018. Heart patients spend most of their wakinghours sitting, lying down and watching television.Previous research has shown that being sedentary forlong periods could shorten life but taking breaks to movearound may counteract the risk, particularly if it meansburning more than 770 kcal a day. The study also foundthat heart patients should interrupt sedentary time every20 minutes with a seven minutes bouts of light physicalactivity. Simple activities such as standing up andwalking at a causal pace would expend more than 770kcal in a day if done with this frequency and duration. The study enrolled 132 patients with coronary arterydisease.

The average age was 63 yearsand 77 % were male. Participantswore an armband activity monitor foran average of 22 hours a day for fivedays. The activity monitor recordedthe amount of emergy spend duringbreaks from inactivity, the amountinactivity time, and the number andduration of breaks during eachsedentary hour.

Bullet found in man's ashessaves another from jail !

New Delhi: A bullet killed a man, but recovery of abullet from the ashes after cremation of the deceasedsaved another from serving a life term in prison. TheSupreme Court acquitted one Wasif Haider of murdercharge after finding glaring discrepancies in the policestory about the bullet. The police charge sheet againstHaider had relied on the postmortem report which saidthere were two bullet wounds on the body, one causedby entry of the bullet and the other by its exit.

However, whenthe body was cremated, abullet was recoveredfrom the ashes, castingserious doubt on thepolice theory. A bench ofJustices N V Ramanaa n d M o h a n

M Shantanagoudar said, “It is surprising that the post-mortem report describes that there were two wounds inthe body of the deceased, one being the entry and theother being the exit wound. Allegedly bullet was stillrecovered from the ashes of the deceased.

“The forensic laboratory report shows that thisbullet was charred and blistered. This recovery of bulletfrom the ashes of the deceased is irreconcilable with thepost mortem report which states an exit wound, implyingthat the bullet had left the body. The aforesaid fact raisesa suspicion on both the post-mortem report and theforensic laboratory report as they are incompatible witheach other.” The SC said the bullet that was recoveredfrom the ashes could not be proved to have been firedfrom the pistol allegedly recovered from Haider: “Eventhe recovery of the pistol is doubtful. While prosecutioncase reveals that one bore Colt pistol was recoveredfrom the posession of the accused Haider, evidence ofthe police officer Rajendra Dhar Dwivedi reveals that a32 bore Colt pistol was recovered pursuant to his arrest. In addition, the police also contradicted itself by claimingthat two pistols of bore were recovered from Haider,”said Justice Ramana, who wrote the judgement for thebench. Referring to the police investigation into the caseof communal rioting in Kanpur on March 16, 2001, inwhich the person was killed, the SC said it wassurprising that the police took 55 days to conduct testidentification parade of accused persons by eye-witnesses, who appeared to be tutored. The trial courthad convicted Haider of murder and sentenced him tolife imprisonment. But Allahabad HC acquitted him, which was challenged in the SC by the stategovernement.
