PRA is reinvigorating its standards for the publica-tion of Rapid Communications to ensure that we accept only the most significant, timely papers. The work flow of the editorial handling of such papers has been modified to achieve an accelerated review and production schedule compared with the one for regular articles and Brief Reports. To achieve this goal, we ask our authors to only submit papers with important results to the Rapid Communication Section and make sure to submit a detailed justification of why the paper deserves priority treatment. We also ask our referees, in making their recommendations, to keep in mind that we only want to publish the most prestigious papers as Rapid Communications. To access the full editorial, please go to http://pra.aps.org/edannounce/PhysRevA.85.050001

Statistics

• PRA no longer uses the number of pages in a manuscript to define the length of short papers but instead uses word counts. The length limit for short papers is 3500 words with the exclusion of the title, bylines, abstract, acknowledgement and references. For more details, please refer tohttp://publish.aps.org/authors/length-guide.

• To make papers available as open access, they can be published in Physical Review A under the terms of the Creative Commons license for an article-processing fee. Additional information can be found athttp://pra.aps.org/edannounce/CC-launch-press-release

• APS has updated and enhanced all scanned archival PDFs in the Physical Review Online Archive.

• Renewed standards for Rapids
