crèches and play schools not just to look afterthe children - we need them as educationalbodies. We need blanket introduction of realall-day schools as well as a more practicalapproach to teaching and performance-relatedpayment for teachers. Finally, more autonomyand individual responsibility for schools andcolleges would lead to a higher quality of education, as all studies have shown us. Here in Rosenheim, we are on the right trackto achieve this. The Rosenheim UAS, where I function as chairman of the university council,is highly autonomous, causing it to stand outfrom Germany’s other technical colleges. Last but not least, we need to encourage eachand every individual more strongly to learnthroughout his or her life.
The shortage of trained professionals isn’t a spectre dreamed up by hysterical businessassociations, it’s reality within companies. It’sa known fact that this shortage is particularlytrue for qualified engineers. According to theZVEI and DITKOM, there is a lack of 40,000engineers in Germany. This alone is slowly butsurely becoming a locational disadvantage for our country. To make matters worse, in the area of skilled craftsmen, or other skilledworkers below that level, there also isn’tenough manpower.
According to the Federal Employment Agencythere are, for example, in the toolmaker, fitter, electrician and metal-cutter categories,9,000 open positions and only 6,000 persons seeking employment. At the same time, there is potential in the around 100,000unemployed persons in Bavaria who may onlyhave low qualifications, but who do haveindustrial experience. It’s a question of how to realise this potential. This is the reason why the BayME and VBM associations havebrought the “Potential” project into being.
It’s aimed at workers from outside the sectorwho have been unemployed up until now butwhom, via a vocational qualification, can fillpositions below the craftsman level in a com-pany. It’s also aimed, however, at semi-skilledand unskilled workers who are already inemployment. A vocational qualification letsthem retain their employability and also toqualify for further responsibilities within thecompany. In the course of the modular and
standardised vocational qualification, workersare trained in skills and made available to thecompany as needed. Vocational qualification is carried out without charge to the companyby the bfzg GmbH, one of Bavaria’s largesttraining institutes with 180 training locations.The intrinsic value of this qualification isexpressed in its certificate with its “Qualifiziertin Bayern” (Qualified in Bavaria) seal.
Encouraging skilled workers in technical occu-pations can only form part of a comprehensivepackage aimed at relieving this lack of skilledworkers. This package must certainly includethe immigration of such workers. The barriersin this area are currently too high. A “BlueCard” rule may be of some help. The politicianswill have to do their homework, however. It will require more than just dropping incomelimits to make immigration easier.
Above all, it’s necessary to improve the educa-tional system in a sustainable form; otherwiseevery immigration programme is just a drop in the ocean. We’ve been involved for years -from pre-school to technical college. Threeyears ago, the Bavarian industry presented arange of studies called “Bildung neu denken”(Rethinking Education) that explored the pos-sibility of comprehensive educational reformon a scientific basis and gave clear recom-mendations on how to deal with this to thepolitical establishment. On the occasion of his three-day state visit toBavaria, Marc Ravalomanana, the Madagas-can President, accepted a private invitation by Prof. Dr. Anton Kathrein.
Before leaving for plant IV in Thansau, thePresident visited Mayoress Gabriele Bauer to put down his signature in Rosenheim’s visitor’s book.
The Stephanskirchen marching band and a delegation of Raubling's brotherhood of gun added to the entertainment value. Fritz Tischner, Mayor of Rohrdorf, was also present in Thansau. Prior to the visit at plant IV, the group went tothe experimental station Grub by the Bavarialregional office for agriculture, and to the open-air farmhouse museum in Amerang.
As the Madagascan President is very interestedin cattle breeding, Prof. Dr. Anton Kathreinmade him the present of a cattle drover, made by KATHREIN-Austria.
The last time Mr. Kathrein had met thePresident was during a trip to Madagascartogether with the German Federal PresidentHorst Köhler in 2006. The antenna specialistfrom Ro-senheim has done business with thefourth largest island in the world for years.Madagascar uses antenna technology byKathrein for its national GSM network andbroadcast station.
For this reason, the President also visited theproduction site at Kathrein where professionalradio and TV antennas are manufactured. He was accompanied by his wife Lalao, theMinister for Foreign Affairs Marcel Ranjeva,the Post and Telecommunications MinisterBruno Andriantavison and PatrickRamiaramanana, Minister for Energy.

Together with 40 enterprisers from Bavaria,the Bavarian Secretary of State Hans Spitznervisited the South African cities Johannesburg,Durban and Cape Town in early March. The purpose of his trip was to help Bavariancompanies establish business contacts toSouth Africa so they will be able to solicitbusiness in the context of the FIFA footbalworldcup 2010.
In Johannesburg, Mr. Spitzner also set up theGerman Chamber of Industry and Commerce’srepresentation for the support of Bavariancompanies located in Sub-Saharan Africa. In his inaugural address he said:
“We decided to set up such a representation as South Africa is Germany’s most importantAfrican commercial partner. This representationwill stimulate the further growth in trade between Germany and South Africa, which is not only important with the World Cup2010 in mind.”
Mr. Spitzner was among others accompaniedby Prof. Dr. Anton Kathrein, who invited thedelegation to attend the official opening of thenew head office of KATHREIN South Africa inStellenbosch.
Prof. Dr. Kathrein said : “We have been activehere in South Africa for over three decades.

In 1997 KATHREIN South Africa (Pty) Ltd.,the head office of which had up to now beenin Somerset West, was founded. Recently our
new property in Stellenbosch, surrounded by vineyards and eclusive wineries, was com-pleted. In South Africa we mainly operate in the telecommunications field, where wefocus on mobile phone network base stationantennas.”
Heinz Henkenjohann, the manager of KATHREIN South Africa, continued: “In thearea of broadcast and mobile communicationantennas we have achieved a total marketshare of over 90% in South Africa and over60% in the rest of the Sub-Saharan region. Our major customers include Sentech, the technical arm of SABC, Vodacom, MTN, whoboth are strongly represented throughoutAfrica, as well as Cell C.We have been active since the beginning ofmobile communication, with the initial launchof GSM 900, the upgrading to GSM 1800 andto the recent expansion to include 3G UMTS.

We are now assisting the aforementioned operators inpreparing for the next generation in communication,that is to say, DVB-T and DVB-H.”
The looming FIFA football worldcup 2010 necessitatesnew communication technology and upgrading of old, where KATHREIN South Africa is also lending itssupport.
In the main building of the new South African headoffice, there are the premium offices which coverapprox. 924 m² paved floor area. They are air-condi-tioned and self-sufficient as the building possesses itsown photovoltaic system. It consists mainly of officesand three guest rooms.
Heinz Henkenjohann explained : “Our staff have an ‘eagles eye’ position to work from, giving them the added advantage which can class them as‘high above the rest’ in a ‘class of their own’:”
KATHREIN South Africa’s workforce is ten with a turnover in 2006 of 10 million euros.
Prof. Dr. Keith Palmer of the Electrical Engineering faculty of the Universityof Stellenbosch, who cemented the cooperation between the university and Kathrein when he visited the UAS in Rosenheim in February to invite a professor from Rosenheim to teach at Stellenbosch University for a semester, was among the felicitators, too.

In the course of their world-wide expansion,the largest Chinese network provider HUAWEIset up a subsidiary in Brazil in 1999. KATHREIN-Mobilcom Brasil (KMB), in turn,received an early opportunity to becomeacquainted with HUAWEI as a result of theirgood business relationship with KATHREIN-China. It didn’t take long before a visit fromthe Brazilian HUAWEI management to theKathrein production facilities in São Paulo followed. Most recently, Kathrein-Mobilcomhas been classified as a premium supplier.
Ever since the first project that HUAWEI wonwith the Brazilian operator CTBC, KATHREIN-Mobilcom Brasil has supplied most of theantennas required for the expansion of theirGSM network, all manufactured locally.Roughly one year later, they collaborated on a project for network expansion set in motion

by the operator OI, located in Rio de Janeiro,who operate in North and Northeastern Brazil.Once again, KMB antennas were implemented.
HUAWEI Brasil regularlyevaluate important sup-pliers within their qualitysystem as to their techni-cal-commercial support,delivery reliability andproduct quality. KMBconsistently obtainedvery high marks in theseevaluations. At the HUAWEI Brazil branch“Supplier’s Meeting” in São Paulo, this was officially honoured andrecognised through the presentation of the“Best Supplier Award”.

Three Kathrein specialists recently had theopportunity to give lectures at the “EtisalatAcademy” of the well-established and largestArabian telecommunications company“Emirates Telecommunications” in Dubai. Peter Anwander, Peter Deidesheimer and PaulSmith held a total of three conferences ontopics such as satellite reception, signal processing, measuring instrument technologyand system planning in communication

networks. A wide array of Kathrein productswere also presented in detail.Over 90 participants from countries in the Golfregion followed the explanations with greatinterest. The invitation was made by Kathreinsubsidiary KATHREIN-Middle East which, with managing director Peter Anwander, hasbeen consolidating Kathrein group activities in the Golf region since the beginning of this year.

ORANGE has made a valuable realm of experience in erecting and extending UMTSnetworks, and is thus known for its spadeworkregarding product development. Many of themarketing innovations made by ORANGE,
like the billing per second or flat rates, aretoday common practice with the competitors.

During the audit not only the plants inRosenheim but also those at KATHREIN-Mobilcom GmbH in Nördlingen were inspected.
KATHREIN-Poland is the 17th group member to be certified to ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment) by the TÜV Süd GmbH (Bavarian technical inspection authority). To this end, manager Marius Juszczyk (centre) set the course at thePolish subsidiary in 2005.

He especially appreciated the enterpriser’s cooperativeness in respect of the establishmentof a business relationship between Rosenheimcounty and Timisoara that took place morethan eight years ago. KATHREIN Romania’sand Romkatel's workforce is currently about400. Two days were spent discussing complextopics of mobile phone technology, focussingon quality and logistics packages, product
innovations, new developments in the filtersrange, digital TV reception on mobile phonesand special antenna system solutions.
The entrepreneur Prof. Dr. Anton Kathrein wasvery pleased at the positive response to hisinvitation, and the lively discussions between
the Vodafone representatives and the variousKathrein technical departments, with the objective of preparing cooperative projects forthe future.
The next “Vodafone KATHREIN User Club meeting” is scheduled for 2008.

“Our new absorber chamber has many otheradvantages as well as being big enough for usto walk in.” says Florian Ofner of KATHREIN-Werke KG plant IV in Thansau near Rosen -heim. “We no longer need any moveable sledguides within the chamber, and we no longerneed excessively long loops of measurementcabling, because the test piece is connectedonly after it has been placed in the absorberchamber.” Test pieces in this case are classicmobile phone antennas, as used by a widevariety of mobile phone network operators.
The chamber was designed and built byKathrein engineers and technicians. NihadSehic sees further advantages from the chamber, saving in excess of EUR 55,000 inmaterials costs alone even before taking intoaccount the measurement equipment : “We can reduce the lengths of the RF cables,thus reducing cable attenuation and allowingus to improve the performance margins.”
This is done by bringing data, RF and controlcables to a central connection point within thechamber. It goes without saying that duringthe measurements the chamber is absolutelyRF-tight. The door drive is automatic, and an

“For our specific impacttests, during which theantenna is subjected toartificially generatedblows, we have evendeveloped a remotelycontrolled pneumaticimpact system.”explains Florian Ofner,who is enthusiasticabout the simple anduser-friendly controls, such as the touch-screen interface on the central computermonitor.
The total investment for the two triple-bandmeasurement stands inplant IV is just short ofEUR 400,000.

The positive experiences and reports on theswitch from analogue to digital television(DVB-T) in Germany and the use of professio-nal transmitting equipment made by Kathreinhave found great interest at home and abroad.Norway will shortly be changing over to digital TV and has great confidence in expertsolutions and tried and tested transmittingantenna equipment made by the specialistantenna company in Rosenheim.
A delegation of experts from the Norwegian TV company NTV in Oslo and the Telenor-Norkring provider came to Rosenheim fordiscussions. Other participants were represen-tatives from Rohde & Schwarz, the Munichmanufacturer of transmitters. They supply thepowerful TV transmitters necessary for theDVB-T project.

The project manager in charge at Kathrein is Helmut Obereder, who emphasized: “It’s actually a pity that the old, almost historic analogue transmitting antennasystems have to give way for the new techno-logy due to the launching of digital TV. We delivered those old systems to Norwaymany years, or even many decades ago andthey are still running fine.”
A visit to the “Wendelstein” transmitting station, which belongs to the BayerischerRundfunk (state-owned Bavarian broadcastingcompany) and which has been using Kathreinantennas and transmitting equipment madeby Rohde & Schwarz for a year, further convinced the Norwegian guests that they had decided on the right partner for theirlarge-scale project.

Right up until 22nd August 1851, it was stillknown as the “100 Guinea Cup”. But then, the “America” simply stole the race from underthe noses of all 14 of the competing Britishyachts. With its highly technical special solutions,Kathrein, the antenna specialist from Rosen -heim, came top in an international request for tender issued by Korean BroadcastingSystems. The high demands made on digitaltransmitting antenna equipment can only bemet by top quality products.
Kathrein’s excellence and reliability is well-known worldwide with the result that animpressive contract to deliver 5 TV broad -casting antenna systems was signed withKorean Broadcasting Systems in spring 2007.In just a few weeks the systems were ready tobe delivered and the responsible engineersfrom Seoul came to Rosenheim to subject the system to thorough inspectionand quality assurance tests.

One outlet – one box –one partner! As from now, the Swiss cable networkoperator SASAG will be offering additional services on their HFC network.
An HFC system (Hybrid Fibre Coax),receives different services such as radio, TV, Internet and cable telephony and transmits these bi-directionally to many subscribers.
SASAG clients are thereby able toenjoy use of modern Triple Play services (TV, Internet and telephonyall from a TV outlet). Over 30 % ofall TV subscribers are already beingprovided with Internet access.
More than 230 digital programmesare broadcast, including HDTV, whichare coded with Conax. The biggestadvantage for SASAG Triple Playclients is the reduction of telephonecosts by 50%.

From the very beginning, SASAG’s networkwas equipped with customised heated profes-sional reception systems for satellite signals,optical directly-modulated transmitters, opticalcompact nodes as well as distribution networkcomponents from Kathrein. Expansion to 862 MHz and optical segmentation wereeffec ted according to the subscribers’ actualdata transfer volume. For this project, Kathreinsupplied additional cutting-edge products : the trunk amplifier and node system GGA 8including electronic setting of parameters andthe optical components (Kobra).
The new line amplifier system VGF/VGO 938with the latest GaAs compact technology andan individual operation concept with slideswitches rounds off the equipment.

The components installed are monitored by Kathrein’s network management system KOM, situated at the SASAG headquarters. The systemcomprises a central unit (TCU 40), a Server PC, a Client PC which displaysthe accumulated information on the Synoptic Board and the monitoringtransponders in the devices.
The KOM monitors the headend (output level), optical transmitters, opticalreceivers, coax amplifiers (GGA 8, compact amplifiers, house connectionamplifier) and peripheral equipment when using the corresponding monitoring transponder.

After mounting a funicular in the BavarianAlps just the evening before, a special helicopter from the Swiss company “HELOG-Heliswiss” took off from Berchtesgaden on anearly morning in August 2007. Destination :an antenna installation in Holland. The “SuperPuma” helicopter made a stop in Mannheim to refuel and flew on to the Dutch broadcaststation site “IJsselstein”, located near the cityof Lopik, where it landed at 11.00 a.m.
The region’s landmark situated there, a 375meter transmitter tower, was to be equippedwith a new Kathrein DVB-T transmissionantenna. This remarkable endeavour wasannounced by the Dutch media early on causing many onlookers and of course newspaper and TV journalists to flock to thesite, a wide area of which was cordoned off, to experience this spectacle and report on it in detail.

Kathrein project manager Anton Vogl was incharge of planning the high-performanceantenna in Rosenheim and delivering it to the broadcast station “KPN" in Holland.Wolfgang Niedhammer, broadcast engineer at KATHREIN-Werke KG, travelled to the siteto supervise this significant event, a relativelydifficult procedure indeed.
The antenna from Rosenheim was to be placed on the top of the “Christmas tree”, asthe monument is called by locals, since everyyear during Christmas time, the tower is decked with fir-tree shaped fairy lights whichcan be seen from afar, transfiguring it into a yuletide herald.
Crowds of observers waited impatiently for the air supervisory authorities to give the helicopter an “all-clear”. Then it was time; the Swiss pilot started the engine and beganthe first of a series of five flights, which were

After the old, veteran antenna had beenbrought to the ground during the first flights,the last flight was reserved for the new antenna. With habitual Swiss precision, the 3-ton Kathrein antenna was hooked on and then safely positioned on the 375 metretower.

That was just the beginning.Additional Kathrein antenna systems for thedevelopment of the digital network have already been delivered to KPN and will beinstalled in the near future.”

started off back in 1951 with what is today“Bayern2Radio”. On 1st January 1957, broad-casting of the first German television channel(ARD) began for the Allgäu region and theSwabian Mountains. At present, eight FM and eight DAB programmes are transmitted.In 1971, a funicular for passenger transport
was put into operation. Until then, the stationcould only be reached on foot.Since 1979, the Grünten funicular has beenowned by Bavarian Broadcasting. A few
months ago, the facility was just again authorised for public transportation, operatingregularly, from June to October.50 years after the first TV transmission, a newhistoric milestone was about to be reached: on 27th November 2007, digital terrestrial TV (DVB-T) was implemented in the region.
The transmitter will supply wide areas ofSwabia and neighbouring regions with DVB-Tprogrammes.

China is getting ready for the 2008 OlympicGames in Peking. Operators from the Chinesecentral broadcasting corporation China CentralTelevision (CCTV) also place their trust inantenna technology from Kathrein.
The antenna specialist from Rosenheim hasjust delivered an additional antenna systemfor Asia’s third-largest tower. Dipl.-Ing. GeorgKlauser, the product area manager responsiblefor this effort, is quite pleased: “All systemshave been successfully installed and functiontrouble-free. The CCTV technicians are verysatisfied with our reliability and special solutions.”
Since 1997, CCTV operators of the centralbroadcasting tower have invested in a total of 4 Kathrein antenna systems, thereby

Kathrein is launching its new RFID-UHFReader Generation RRUI. The device wasdeveloped at Kathrein’s sites in Rosenheim,Burgstädt and Niederndorf. Continuallygrowing demands on RFID-UHF systemscall for a completely new, state-of-the-artUHF reader concept--Kathrein has createdthis. A highly flexible modular conceptbased on the Intel R1000 Chip, with a consistent device core allows it to fulfilcustomer needs quickly and cost-effectively.Various functional modules can be retro -fitted to satisfy the most diverse require-ments for interfaces and performance categories.
A scalable housing ensures the smallestdimensions possible for the range of functions required. Compared to standardproducts, the housing volume is 50 %smaller, whereas the protection categoriesIP 54 to IP 65 are still optimally fulfilled. A further advantage of the design are thesignificantly shorter and subsequently morecost-efficient development time periodsrequired for customisation, e.g. proprietaryinterfaces.

Kathrein takes RFID to a new dimension
Time-consuming, at times unsuccessfultesting is practically unnecessary. The EPC Global GEN2 standard is suppor-ted in the ETSI frequency ranges 865 MHz–868 MHz as well as in the FCC ranges
902 MHz–928 MHz. Performance categories include modules ranging from 100 mW–2 W. A 1-way to 4-way antennainterface is available.
The following interfaces enable connectionto diverse communications systems: USB, Ethernet 10/100, RS 422, RS 485,8-way I/O module.
Factory acceptance test at Kathrein inRosenheim. A fully installed antenna isassembled on the antenna specialist’smeasuring field. Final destination?Tegal in Central Java (Indonesia). The antenna was designed for theprogrammes RCTI, TPI and GlobalTV,with a transmission power of 10 kilowatts for each.

In 2006 the scene of the “3GSM WorldCongress” was relocated from Cannes toBarcelona. This year, the world’s premiermobile event enjoyed a second successful yearin the sprawling Catalan city of Barcelona withan increase in both the quantity and quality ofvisitors. Approximately 55,000 visitors fromacross the world gathered at the Congress todo business; a significantly higher numbercompared to last year, when 50,000 visitorscame. This year’s Congress hosted 1,300 exhi-bitors; that’s an increase of about 35 percent.“The trade show itself is no place to actuallymake up our accounts, rather it is a place toattract new business”, Prof. Dr. Anton Kathrein(2nd left on the photo) explained and went on: “To us, the opportunity to establish business relationships with customers fromAsian, African and Arab countries is of the highest importance. The Rosenheim antenna specialist Kathrein, their Spanish representative ESB Sistemas and KATHREIN-France all took part in the “Tetra World Congress ’07” in Madrid.
The largest international conference on professional digital mobile communication systems for public authorities and organisations with securityduty was coupled with an exhibition, recording a total of over 2,000 visitors and80 stands. Compared to the last Tetra conference (TErrestrial TRunked RAdio),which took place in Frankfurt, interest has grown considerably, with 25 % moreprofessional visitors in Spain.
For the industrial engineer Heino Cumpanas (in picture, 4th from left, withSpanish customers), of Kathrein Marketing in Rosenheim, there is a distinct trendin the sales of antennas for mobile communications : “Quality products are takingabsolute precedence over “cheap” ones. This fits our strategy perfectly, recentlyallowing us to drive out a competitor in Croatia.”

The International Consumer Electronics Show (IFA) inBerlin is an important platform for the consumer electro-nics sector. Since 1924, the Rosenheim-based KATHREIN-Werke KG have been using this exhibition to display theirproduct innovations. This year, Kathrein placed emphasison new receivers for digital TV, which they presented at a 240 square-meter, two-storey stand. The IFA 2007recorded over 235,000 visitors; a total of 1,212 exhibitors from 32 countries took part in this event.

Ever since radio and television were introduced in Germany, the Rosenheim engineers have always been in on it. The head of the Mainz State Chancellery and member of the SPD media commission, formerly lead by SPD Chairman Kurt Beck, was particularly interested in digital terrestrial antennas like the ones Kathrein mounted on the Munich Olympia tower and on the Wendelstein mountain.

The trade fair “ANGA Cable”, which has justended in Cologne set a new record for visitornumbers. For the first time, over 10,000 visi-tors came to Europe’s leading fair for cable, satellite and multimedia. The technical conference held in conjunctionwith the fair also showed an increase from1,000 to 1,200 participants.

The Rosenheim engineers andtechnicians are currently exhibiting the new UFS 910HDTV satellite receiver, madehere in Germany. This receivercan receive both HDTV (HighDefinition Television) and alsoconventional TV.
Of particular interest in thefield of broadband communi-cations are a large number of optical products such asnew compact receivers andcompact amplifiers. These can be used in combinationwith the “KOBRA” extended optical broadband platform to create modernoptical transmission networks.
The high level of visitor interest was attributedby fair organisers and exhibitors alike to theincreasing use of fibre optic transmission incable networks, and the continuing growth inbroadband use.
“The ‘NAB Show’ is regarded world-wide as the most important industrymeeting place for media technology.More than 100,000 professionalvisitors and 1,500 exhibitors frommore than 140 countries participa-ted”, summarized Prof. Dr. AntonKathrein after “NAB 2007” (NationalAssociation of Broadcasters), whichwas held in the American players’paradise Las Vegas.Together with the American subsi -diary KATHREIN Inc. Thanks to our inter-national presence and our market leadership,network operators worldwide rely on tech-nology ‘Made by Kathrein,’” emphasized Prof. Dr. Kathrein, who was proud to presentthis trade fair highlight to numerous profes-sional visitors in Las Vegas. The transmitters for this network were manufactured by Rohde & Schwarz of Munich, the transmissionantennas came from Kathrein‘s production inRosenheim.

“CommunicAsia” in Singapore is, according to Kathrein sales manager Volker Kuhn, the“largest and most important exhibition formobile communications and broadcasting inAsia.” This year, 2,413 exhibitors from 65countries presented themselves to 68,000international professional visitors over a periodof four days. Kuhn stated, “Over 50 percent of the visitors came from abroad, especiallyfrom Asia and the Pacific, Europe, the USAand the Middle East.”

165,000 visitors from 35 countries came to Düsseldorf in the course of the ten-day exhibition to have a look at the productsdisplayed by 567 exhibitors from a total of 22 countries. 13 per cent of the visitors camefrom abroad, ten per cent were trade visitors.
The next CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF willbe open from 29th August (for trade vistorsand the media) to 7th September 2008. On4th September 2008, the very first CaravaningWorld Congress will be taking place.
The goal of this congress is to improve information sharing and contacts within theinternational caravaning market.

The IBC, the world’s largest trade show forradio and TV held yearly in Amsterdam, recorded more visitors than ever before :
“The ‘PRODUCTRONICA’, which only takesplace every two years in Munich, is an inter-national showcase for everything electronicsproduction has to offer,” stated katek SalesManager Wolfgang Fritsch (on the right). “No other trade fair reflects the sector’s complete value-added chain in one place.” On a total of four days, over 1,500 interna-tional exhibitors presented themselves alongside the Grassau company at the Munich fairground.
It was only natural that the katek GmbH alsopresented their innovative products andsystem solutions for electronics production.“We are, for example, a very competent part-ner for the automobile electronics segment,”explained Silvia Klau (centre) of katek salesco-ordination.

The Kathrein stand was visited by numerous busi-ness partners and prospective buyers who received presen-tations on the newest products in the areas of transmission,reception and measurement technology. Digital TV (DVB-T),and “handheld TV” (DVB-H) were the main topics covered.
Prof. Dr. Anton Kathrein, who was on location, is very pleased about the attractive new projects: “We saw whichway the wind was blowing and provided the right productsfor users. Huge rejoicing for the KATHREIN Race andRally Team as top driver Hermann Gaßnerwith his co-driver Siegi Schrankl won theGerman Rally Championship (DRM) for thethird time, after previous victories in 1995 and2003. The ADMV Lausitz Rally was the fifth
2002, 2004 and 2005 and has now well andtruly made it to the ranks of the “all-timegreatest” amongst German rally drivers, aswell as becoming Germany’s most successfulactive rally driver. A beaming and very proudHermann Gaßner summed up the season:

In the ADAC Southern Rally Masters it was amatter of successfully defending their title forthe resident champions Hermann Gaßner andSiegi Schrankl. Since however the DRM tookthe top priority when planning the schedule,the title-holders were able to take part in onlyfive of the six rallies in this series. At the end of the season, second place can be reckoned an outstanding achievement.Overall victory in the Mitropa Rally Cup (MC)was a further highlight in the sporting career of Hermann Gaßner and Karin Thannhäuser.The MC is regarded as an unofficial EuropeanChampionship for amateurs and private drivers.Hermann Gaßner this year won the title for thesecond time since 2001; for his co-driver KarinThannhäuser it was the first time.The crew of Hermann Gaßner and KarinThannhäuser also started as the KATHREIN-Race and Rally Team in the Austrian NationalRally Championship (ÖRSM) and achieved anoutstanding third place overall. They could notexpect any higher position this year, becauseclashes of dates with the DRM and the MCmeant they could start only four of the eightrallies.

Scuderia is the Italianword for “racing team”.
