In order to facilitate a positive beginning to the day, our stu- dents are encouraged to begin entering the warm neighbour- hoods at 8.45am. They are greeted by teachers who are ready to welcome and help them prepare for the learning ahead. This preparation will contribute to a successful day of learning, it helps build rela- tionships with our students and ensures that everyone is ready for learning. It is very positive to see so many students at school on time and preparing for learning. This is a very im- portant time of the day and we want to encourage you to send your children to school on time so that they dont miss out on this. REMEMBER: EVERY DAY COUNTS AND SO DOES EVERY MINUTE!! Thank you to the parents who have made a concerted effort to get their children to school regularly and on time. It makes a very big difference to the stu- dents and teachers. It demon- strates that you value educa- tion and support the school. PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Parent teacher interviews were very well attended this week and we are thrilled to have seen so many parents in our learning spaces hearing about the achievements and future learning of their children. The interviews this semester al- lowed parents and teachers to have in depth discussion about students and how parents can support the learning at home. We would like to thank all of the parents that did respond and who did attend. There were many parents who didnt attend and who didnt phone to let us know that they couldnt make it. Many inter- preters were booked to support the interviews, and many were cancelled because the interview did not go ahead. We under- stand that circumstances change and things happen in all our lives that we dont fore- see, a phone call to inform us of this is greatly appreciated. The parent teacher interviews are an important event in your childrens schooling. We ask that you attend 2 times a year. This is another way in which you can show your children that you support them, you support the teachers and the school. We look forward to see- ing you all in Semester 2. Have a great weekend and I look forward to welcoming you all into week 11! Regards Carmela

Valley View

Good afternoon Broadmeadows Valley,

I hope this newsletter finds you all well and getting ready for the school holidays in one week’s time. Again, I’ll say how quickly time flies when you are having fun and working as dili-gently as we all do here at BVPS. A very sincere thankyou to all teachers, students and parents who continue to sup-port our work and provide our students with the best possible opportunities for continual growth. ‘when we work together we will continue to make a difference’

GETTING READY FOR LEARNING

I hope you have managed to stay warm this week with very low temperatures being the norm. In order to facilitate a positive beginning to the day, our stu-dents are encouraged to begin entering the warm neighbour-hoods at 8.45am. They are greeted by teachers who are ready to welcome and help them prepare for the learning ahead. This preparation will contribute to a successful day of learning, it helps build rela-tionships with our students and ensures that everyone is ‘ready for learning.’ It is very positive to see so many students at school on time and preparing

for learning. This is a very im-portant time of the day and we want to encourage you to send your children to school on time so that they don’t miss out on this. REMEMBER: EVERY DAY COUNTS AND SO DOES EVERY MINUTE!! Thank you to the parents who have made a concerted effort to get their children to school regularly and on time. It makes a very big difference to the stu-dents and teachers. It demon-strates that you value educa-tion and support the school.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent teacher interviews were very well attended this week and we are thrilled to have seen so many parents in our learning spaces hearing about the achievements and future learning of their children. The interviews this semester al-lowed parents and teachers to have in depth discussion about students and how parents can support the learning at home. We would like to thank all of the parents that did respond and who did attend. There were many parents who didn’t attend and who didn’t phone to let us know that they

couldn’t make it. Many inter-preters were booked to support the interviews, and many were cancelled because the interview did not go ahead. We under-stand that circumstances change and things happen in all our lives that we don’t fore-see, a phone call to inform us of this is greatly appreciated. The parent teacher interviews are an important event in your children’s schooling. We ask that you attend 2 times a year. This is another way in which you can show your children that you support them, you support the teachers and the school. We look forward to see-ing you all in Semester 2.

Have a great weekend and I

look forward to welcoming you

all into week 11!

LN1 News! During Enrichment this term stu-dents have been learning about and exploring the question ‘where do I belong?’ They have learnt about their family history including where their family comes from and Aboriginal/ Australian culture. Over the last couple of weeks stu-dents have been working in four different inquiry groups. Students chose their inquiry group based on an area of interest to them. Geography: Students in the geography group participated in a nature walk around the communi-ty. They created a nature bracelet using materials they found on their walk. They also explored Australian symbols and famous Australian landmarks. Performing: Students in the performance group have been singing ‘Waltz Sing Matilda’ and dancing to the ‘Heel and Toe’. They have been exploring and learning traditional Australian songs and folk dances. Cooking: Students in the cook-ing group have been learning about traditional Australian foods

such as scones and damper. They researched different recipes and had the opportunity to make damper and pizzas in the Valley kitchen. Animals: Students in the ani-mal group have been learning about and exploring different Aboriginal dream time stories. They have had the opportunity to research different Australian ani-mals and created a model of their animal using craft materials. LN1 will be sharing their learning from inquiry groups next Tuesday at 2.30pm in the Learning Neighbourhood. All parents and families are invited to come along and celebrate the learning that has taken place in Enrichment this term. All of the students are excit-ed to share their learning with their peers and families. If you have any questions please come and see one of the teachers in LN1. We look forward to seeing you there. Amy, Jamielee, Wendy, Rob and Jason.

LN2 Newsletter This month in writing we have been learning about using Figura-tive Language and putting thoughts and feelings in our writ-ing. Figurative Language is when you use similes or metaphors to describe something by comparing it to something else. In Reading we have been asking questions about our books and using Ques-tioning Webs to figure out the ‘best’ answer when we need to infer. In Maths one of our new fluency games uses fidget spinners. We have to spin the fidget spinner and then answer as many addition questions as you can before the fidget spinner stops spinning. Ra-wan’s high score is 43 and Sidra’s is 38. We have been learning about number lines and using landmark numbers to help us find other numbers on the number line.

Enrichment has been really fun. We have been learning about the History of Australia and what it was like for the Aboriginal people before and after Europeans came on the First Fleet. Did you know that some people came here for just stealing things like buttons or bread? We have also started learning about Geography. We have looked at maps and Google Earth to see where the countries our ancestors came from are lo-cated. We are also learning about Australia and the states, territo-ries, cities and important land-marks. In music we have been getting ready to record songs and make a CD. 34C and 34P have been prac-tising ‘When I Grow Up’ from the musical Matilda. 34S and 34F have been singing ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry. We are excited to make a BVPS CD. Have a safe weekend and Happy Eid. Written by Sefine, Rawan H and Sidra. Each week in LN2 we have a ‘neighbourhood assembly’ where we present students with Learning Values badges. As part of our be-haviour management program, students are rewarded with ‘ticks’ for showing behaviour that mirrors that of our school values – Leader-ship (Matilda), Individuality (Natia), Collaboration (Gus and Girt), Community (Rafid), Achieve-ment (Djinda) and Creativity (Pablo). Once students have col-lected 10 ‘ticks’ in any one catego-ry they receive a badge to wear on their uniform to show that they are an expert at demonstrating

that value, as well as being able to choose from a list of ‘privileges’ that they can participate in at school or in the community. Parents are welcome to join us every Wednesday at 3pm in the neigh-bourhood. A reminder that our camp is coming up quickly next Term and payments are now due. The last date for payments is next Friday, the last day of term! Until next time, Cyndi, Jodie, Shayne and Sarah. Learning Neighbourhood 3 The highlight of our learning was our excursion to Federation Square where we viewed and learned about Indigenous Artwork on Thursday 8th June. All our specialist teachers came with us. There was great excitement when we arrived at the National Gallery to see the Van Gogh exhibition and do some of our own painting. We were given a beautiful book with Van Gogh’s paintings to bring back to school. We have put it in our art room here at school.

Some comments on our excursion “I didn’t realise life could be so serious”. Jordyn Ferguson Van Gogh thought his art works were no good but others think his work is amazing. He cut his ear off and sent it to his girlfriend. We re-member him as a great artist. Tepavili We saw amazing art pieces and objects at Federation Square. At the National Gallery a lady named Grace told us about Van Gogh’s life. We walked through the exhibition and then went to an art room to paint in Van Gogh’s style. Everyone had great fun. Trisha On our excursion to the city we saw indigenous art. We saw evil spirits and a mother with her two kids. At the National Gallery we got to hear the story of Van Gogh’s life and I painted flowers the way he did. Mandy LN3 Nathan, Rosie, Jan and Nicole.
