Starting points for further joint activities
Very simple, sorry…:
Innovation is a permanent process, a cycleInnovation = process from idea via
research, technology and knowledge transfer towards a product on the market
Co-operation between all innovation partners is needed: scientists, producers, final users / consumers
Why should a Scientist go in touch with SMEs?
SMEs are important partners of the economy on internal market
European Commission will support explicitely the innovation capacity of SMEs and will spend a total of 15% of RP7
Programme „Research for the benefit of SMEs“ is very attractive for outsourcing of research activities
Scientists can participate in projects as RTD performers
Our future needs a closer link between Science and Economy (research and innovation)
Communication Innovation UnionGreen Paper Innovation
Highlights selected from EU documents
Innovation Union / Green Paper
Barriers to bring „ideas to market“ must be removed
Ideas are prevented from reaching the market by different conditions (financing, IPR, administrative regulations, public procurement….)
Knowledge transfer between business and academia should be strengthened, also transnationally
Ultimate users of innovations should be involved much earlier (also along the „value creation chain“
EU funding should cover the full innovation cycle from research to market (id2market)
Radical and efficient change of Society and Economy

History of id2market
From pre-competitive to market oriented research:
Till RP3:Pre-competitive research was precondition for applications
Till RP7:More priority to dissemination and exploitation of RTD
results, no funding, but concept, potential impact…
From „RP8?“Integration of the whole innovation process from idea to
product on the market (id2market)

Final remarks (1)
I have tried
to present and to explain the support mechanisms for companies and research institutions in the innovation process from idea to product on the market
to motivate a closer co-operation between academia / science and economy / companies
to show the potential for synergy of this co-operation
to support and to pave the way of participation in the next and new „Research and Innovation Framework Programme“ for the whole innovation process „id2market“
BUT:
Final remarks (2)
BUT, resulting from discussions with EARMA members:
There is no place or reason to distinguish between
„Good“ research (with direkt link to the market)
and
„Bad“! research (indirekt or not connected with the market):
basic, social, cultural research
Selling of innovative products on
markets are the basis for workplaces, welfare of
society and also budgets for universities to
perform basic research
Thank you for your attention
