Commemorating 400 Years since the first
Africans were brought to North America
as slaves to Point Comfort known as Fort
Monroe, Hampton, VA and placed into
bondage. Frederick Douglass (Nathan
Richardson) will discuss events connecting
that beginning until the end of slavery with
the Emancipation Proclamation.

Spiritual Life At Lake Prince Woods
Bible Study at Lake Prince Woods is held every Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 pm. It is led
by Lake Prince Woods Chaplain, Rev. Gary Newsome.
Prayer Chapel is located on the 2nd floor across from the lobby. The Prayer Chapel is open
24 hours and 7 days a week to all residents and staff.
Vespers Worship Service at Lake Prince Woods is held every Sunday at 4:00 pm in the
Portsmouth Center. We often have special musical guests as well as Lake Prince Woods
own Golden Voices sings for us every 3rd Sunday of the month. Each service is led by Lake
Prince Woods Chaplain, Rev. Gary Newsome.
SUPPORT GROUP
Lake Prince Woods Caregiver’s Support Group meet every third Monday of each month.
The month of February meeting will be on Monday, February 18 at 3:00 pm in the back of
the Portsmouth Center. The purpose is to provide an opportunity to meet regularly for
mutual support and to exchange coping skills with one another.
Physical fitness plays a very important role in your life. It is important
for improving muscular strength. A fit body is not only physically
strong but mentally strong as well. A combined routine, including
proper exercise and diet, have a positive effect on brain function. It
elevates the flow of blood to the brain and enhances one’s memory.
We offer a variety of classes during the week to do just that!
A universal language in dancing! Line Dancing held at Lake Prince
Woods in the Portsmouth Center on Mondays at 10:45 AM. Not
only is it fun but it provides many health benefits, such as, it helps
with cardiovascular, muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, bone
strength and weight control.
Chair One Fitness held on Mondays at 10:15 AM and Zumba
Gold held on Wednesdays at 9:15 AM. Zumba, whether sitting
in a chair or standing, has the ability to help burn calories, work
out the entire body, boost metabolism, increase endurance, boost
mood, aid coordination and improve confidence.
Stretch and Tone held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:15
AM in the Portsmouth Center. This exercise helps to relax
and relieve tension, with range of motion and the ability to
move all joints normally.
Chair Exercise held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30
AM in the Portsmouth Center. With the use of resistance bands and
the option to use weights, chair exercise assist individuals to exercise
and move without putting undo pressure or strain on their bodies.
Chair Yoga held on Fridays at 9:30 AM in the Portsmouth Center.
Yoga helps to increase circulation joint pain from arthritis, promote
a healthy mindset, reduce high blood pressure levels, alleviate stress,
promote relaxation and reduce feelings of tension or discomfort.
Low Impact Aerobics held on Fridays at 8:45 AM. Low Impact Aerobics
exercise helps to increase cardiovascular health, decrease damaged joints
and weight loss. It promotes healing and recover damaged joints.

and faces a surprise visit from someone she’s

“Silent Sky” at the Little Theater of Virginia Beach.
“Silent Sky” tells us the true story of Henrietta Leavitt,
the astronomer ahead of her time. It is 1900 and
Henriette has the opportunity to work at Harvard
University as a human computer mapping the starts
but receiving no scientific credit. “Silent Sky” is the
poignant tale of a woman’s dedication to the stars, and
the human touch that makes life under the vast sky
beautiful and timeless.

Southampton, “Letters From Home”. Letters From
Home started at the suggestion of Pat Dearth, Erin’s
father, who was a veteran of the United States Coast
Guard. Their mission was to honor veterans, active
military and their families by reviving patriotism for
all generations.

Opera, “The Elixer of Love”. A comic opera most
performed worldwide with sparkling effervescent
tunes, emotional melodies and the quack medicine
man selling his love potion. The character develop
before our very eyes in a most touching love story
containing one of the most famous tenor aria of all
time “Una furtive lagrima.”

“Play On” is a hilarious story of a theater group trying desperately to put
on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty authoress
who keeps revising the script. When the authoress decides to give a
speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the
audience is treated to a madcap climax to a thoroughly hilarious romp.

Fond Memories In Concert
Friday, February 8 at 7:00 PM. The Vocal Group Fond
Memories consists of 5 singers each of whom live in Virginia
Beach, Va. The love to sing and entertain as well as bring
their God-given vocal talents together several times a month in
an effort to bring smiles, laughter, and sometimes tears to the
residents of nursing homes, assisted living centers, senior living
communities, rehabilitation facilities throughout Hampton
Roads.

Photographer John Plashal will take you on a photographic
journey through the beautifully decaying rural places within our
state with which so many Virginians have become fascinated.

The City of Suffolk Public Library visits Lake Prince Woods twice a month. The Pop Up
Library where you can get a library card and check out or return books. They will be here
on Thursday, February 14 at 11 AM. We also have a “Book Club” that will meet on
Thursday, February 28 at 11 AM. The Suffolk Public Library provides the book of the
month to read and discuss.
